New Jersey Devils coach Pete DeBoer says Ilya Kovalchuk (shoulder) will return this season but "not in the near future."

It was nine days ago when the Devils said Kovalchuk would miss two to four weeks, so we're taking this to mean that Kovalchuk will not return at or prior to the two-week mark. More likely is a return in the final two weeks of the season, which would still mean a great deal for a Devils team struggling even more to score goals without their best player. Fantasy owners should keep in mind, though, that the Devils have been overly optimistic in public about pretty much all of their injuries this season with nearly every injured player taking longer to recover than the original timetable.

Brian Gionta has signed a one-year, one-way contract with the Boston Bruins worth $700,000.

Gionta's new deal will cover the remainder of the 2017-18 season. He was Team USA's captain at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. Gionta also had one goal in one game for Rochester of the AHL this season in a tuneup before heading to Pyeongchang, South Korea. The 39-year-old winger posted 15 goals and 35 points in 82 games with Buffalo last campaign.

Mark Letestu has been traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets in a three-team deal.

Letestu was sent from Edmonton to Nashville in exchange for forward Pontus Aberg and then flipped to Columbus for a fourth-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. Letestu has eight goals and 19 points in 60 games this season. He is eligible for unrestricted free agency in the summer and will provide some depth down the middle for Columbus, where he played for parts of four seasons before going into the Oilers in 2015-16.

The Ottawa Senators have placed Alex Burrows on waivers.

Burrows is still serving his 10-game suspension for kneeing Taylor Hall in the head, but he's eligible to return to the lineup on Mar. 2. Still, it's unlikely that anyone will be willing to him off Ottawa's hands because he's not productive and he still has one year remaining on his contract that comes with a cap hit of $2.5 million. Burrows has three goals and five assists in 51 games this season.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired Tomas Plekanec from the Montreal Canadiens.

The Leafs sent forward Kerby Rychel, defenseman Rinat Valiev and their 2018 second-round pick to Montreal for Plekanec and Kyle Baun. The Canadiens will be retaining 50 percent of Plekanec's remaining salary. The 35-year-old doesn't have the offensive ability he once had, but he's still capable of playing a shut-down role against the opposition's best forwards. He has six goals and 24 points in 60 games this season. Plekanec will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
Feb 25 - 11:45 AM

The Minnesota Wild have placed Chris Stewart on waivers.

Stewart hasn't hit the 20-goal mark since he scored 28 goals with Colorado and St. Louis back in 2010-11. He has just nine goals and four assists in 47 games with the Wild this season. Stewart has also served as a healthy scratch on several occasions since the start of the 2018. He's scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, so it's entirely possible that a team decides to claim him.
Feb 25 - 11:30 AM

Patrice Bergeron (lower body) will be a game-time decision for Sunday's game against Buffalo.

Bergeron was injured in Saturday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was seen leaving the Bruins' locker room in a walking boot, but the injury doesn't appear to be serious. He has 27 goals and 27 assists in 54 games this season. Even though they acquired Rick Nash earlier this morning, losing Bergeron would be tough to overcome.
Feb 25 - 10:38 AM

The Boston Bruins have acquired Rick Nash from the New York Rangers.

The Bruins gave up forwards Ryan Spooner and Matt Beleskey, as well as defense prospect Ryan Lindgren, a first-round pick in 2018 and a seventh-round pick in 2019. The Rangers will retain half of Nash's remaining salary, while the Bruins will hold on to 50 percent of Belskey's salary. Nash isn't the scorer he once was, but he's still capable of being a productive winger with good size. The 33-year-old has 18 goals and 28 points in 60 games this season. Going to a team like Boston should help him increase his fantasy value by a notch or two.
Feb 25 - 9:41 AM

Marc-Andre Fleury has enjoyed playing a lot since his return to the Vegas lineup.

Fleury has started 10 straight games and 15 of the last 16 for the Golden Knights after missing 25 games earlier in the season with a concussion. The netminder is 21-7-2 with a 2.13 GAA and a .930 save percentage, the last two numbers being career highs at this time. "I thought he had another strong game for us," Knights coach Gerard Gallant said of Friday's 6-3 win. "He missed a lot of the season early on, and I think he’s real fresh. He likes to play games, and you look at the way the schedule is right now. Game day on, game day off. He’s running on it a little bit and playing really good hockey for us." He has won five of six and will start Monday. He is a must start.
Feb 25 - 9:34 AM

GM Doug Wilson thinks that Joe Thornton (knee surgery) will return before the end of the regular season.

That would be a bonus for the Sharks as Thornton was having a nice campaign with 13 goals and 36 points in 47 games before suffering the right MCL injury on January 20. Stay tuned as a return to action would be a better boost to the Sharks than a deal at the trade deadline Monday.
Feb 25 - 9:21 AM

Mike Cammalleri had three assists in a 4-3 win over his former team, the Los Angeles Kings, on Saturday night.

Cammalleri assisted on three of his team's four goals on Saturday, while posting two shots on goal and skating for 15:43 of ice-time in the win. Cammalleri now has five goals and 25 points in 53 games this season.
Feb 25 - 2:49 AM

Taylor Hall had two assists in a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders on Saturday night, extending his points streak to 21 games.

Per the NHL, Taylor Hall is the sixth player in the last 25 years, since the 1992-93 season, to have at least one point in 21 consecutive contests. He extended that streak Saturday with assists on both Kyle Palmieri goals. Hall now has 26 goals, 40 assists, and 66 points in 57 games this season.
