Minnesota Wild recall Johan Larsson from AHL Houston.

Larsson has been up and down between the NHL and the AHL a couple times this season. He played in one game with the Wild but did not register a point. Larsson was the Wild's second-round pick in 2010.

Brian Elliott is anxious to start the season as Calgary's number one goalie.

He had to share the crease with Jake Allen, Ryan Miller and Jaroslav Halak when he played for the St. Louis Blues, so the veteran netminder is excited to have the number one role to himself for the 2016-17 campaign. "To have that good of numbers and not get the opportunity to be the No. 1 guy, sometimes it's frustrating," Elliott said. "But I've always believed if you worked hard, put your head down and plowed through it, opportunities will pop up for you." Those numbers may drop as a member of the Flames, but he will provide the team with better goaltending than they had last season.

Petr Mrazek has agreed to terms on a two-year contract with Detroit.

His new deal carries an annual average value of $4 million. Mrazek will make $3.85 million in 2016-17 and $4.15 million in 2017-18. He posted a 27-16-6 record as the starting goaltender for the Red Wings last year, while earning a 2.33 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage.

Mike Hoffman has inked a four-year contract with the Ottawa Senators.

The average annual value of the deal is $5.1875 million. He will make $3.8 million next season and then earn $5.65 million in three years after that. Hoffman registered personal bests in 2015-16 in goals (29), assists (30) and points (59) in 78 matches.

The Hurricanes have given head coach Bill Peters a contract extension through the 2018-19 season.

"Bill is a talented, young coach in the National Hockey League," GM Ron Francis said. "We are happy that he has made a commitment to the Hurricanes, and that he will be a major part of the team continuing to grow." Carolina has posted a 65-72-27 record in his two seasons behind the bench. The club improved by 15 points from the 2014-15 campaign last year and Peters won a gold medal coaching Team Canada at the 2016 World Championship.

Danny DeKeyser has signed a six-year, $30 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings.

He averaged 21:48 minutes of ice time per game last season, while contributing eight goals and 20 points in 78 matches. DeKeyser has become a top-four defender for the Red Wings, but he still has work to do before he becomes a viable player in fantasy leagues.
Jul 26 - 10:16 AM

Brayden Schenn has agreed to a four-year contract with Philadelphia.

The new deal carries an annual average of $5.125 million. The two sides narrowly avoided salary arbitration. Schenn just had the most productive season of his NHL career in 2015-16. He compiled 26 goals and 59 points in 80 games.

Kris Versteeg's move to Europe for next season appears to be final.

SC Bern of the National League A has announced that he will join the team on a one-year contract. It's surprising that Versteeg won't be playing in North America in 2016-17. In 550 career NHL contests, the 30-year-old forward has generated 131 goals and 313 points.

Luke Schenn has inked a two-year deal with the Arizona Coyotes.

Schenn deserves credit for being a big contributor when it comes to hits and blocked shots as he finished 2015-16 with 234 and 106 respectively. However, he doesn't look as good in terms of Corsi/Fenwick. He hasn't always been a negative Corsi/Fenwick player relative to his teammates, but that has been the case with him more often than not. He has a career minus-3.8 relative Corsi and minus-4.0 relative Fenwick over the course of his career, which suggests that his teams did a worse job of possessing the puck whenever he was on the ice compared to when he wasn't playing. All that said, this move gives Arizona some extra defensive depth and could bolster their third pairing. It's worth adding that Coyotes GM John Chayka feels Schenn "can optimize his performance here."

Claude Giroux (hip/abdomen) has already resumed skating.

Giroux was originally projected to take 10-12 weeks before he'd be back on the ice, but he got to this point in nine weeks. He should be available for the World Cup, where he'll represent Canada.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed Auston Matthews to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The financial terms of the agreement weren't immediately known. Typically the financial terms of an entry-level contract aren't that interesting anyways, but this is an exception as there was talk that GM Lou Lamoriello might attempt to deny Matthews performance bonuses. We would be surprised if Matthews agreed to a contract with no or minimal performance bonuses, but eventually we know either way. Regardless of the terms of the deal, Toronto and Matthews have taken the first step towards what could be a superb NHL career. Temper your expectations for Matthews as a rookie, especially seeing as the Leafs might limit his playing time initially, but there's no question that he has tremendous upside.

Mikhail Grigorenko has inked a one-year, $1.3 million contract with the Colorado Avalanche.

As a result, Grigorenko's scheduled arbitration hearing for Friday is no longer necessary. He had requested a salary of $1.65 million and the Avalanche countered at $950,000, so they basically settled on the middle ground. Grigorenko has plenty of potential but he also has a lot to prove. He had an underwhelming six goals and 27 points in 74 contests last season.
