Nick Foligno scored a couple of goals in Monday's 6-3 Game 6 loss to the Washington Capitals.

Foligno got the Blue Jackets on the board midway through the second period with a wrister to beat Braden Holtby. Columbus' captain then followed that up with another midway through the final frame to give the Blue Jackets some hope but they were never able to find the back of the net again. It's a tough series loss for Columbus who jumped out to a 2-0 series lead only to lose four straight to Braden Holtby and the Capitals. The Blue Jackets will finish another post-season without winning a playoff round.

Braden Holtby stopped 35 of 38 shots in Monday's 6-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Holtby looked absolutely unbeatable until the cracks started to show after Nick Foligno beat him with weak shot midway through the second period. However, Holtby responded well to that weak goal and continued to play with confidence, allowing his teammates to jump out to a two-goal lead and never give it away for the rest of the contest. The Capitals switching from Philipp Grubauer to Braden Holtby after Game 2 has proven to be the turning point of the series with Washington erasing a 2-0 series deficit and winning four straight to have the right to host the Pittsburgh Penguins in the next round.

Alexander Ovechkin scored two goals in Monday's 6-3 Game 6 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets to advance to the second round.

Ovechkin showed that his game is much more than just one-timers for his first goal of the night. The Russian forward help force the turnover with a check in the corner and went straight to the net where he banged home the rebound off of Brooks Orpik's shot for his 50th career playoff goal. Ovechkin then reverted to his usual spot on the power play five minutes later for his second goal of the night. He is the first Capitals player in franchise history to reach 50 playoff goals and he leads all Capitals in career two-goal playoff goals with seven (Peter Bondra and Dale Hunter are second with five). The Capitals will host Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in the next round.

Mitch Marner scored a goal and picked up an assist in Monday's Game 6 win over the Boston Bruins.

Deadlocked at one midway through the second frame, Ron Hainsey tried to get the puck to Tomas Plekanec but the deflection found its way to Marner who buried a backhander behind Tuukka Rask. It was Marner's second goal of the post-season and his eighth point making him Toronto's best player in the series so far. Marner then followed up his goal with an assist on Plekanec's empty netter. Game 7 is scheduled for Wednesday night in Boston.

Matt Calvert will skate on the second line during Game 6 against Washington on Monday.

Calvert will play with Alexander Wennberg and Josh Anderson. The 28-year-old has played well during the postseason, so it's not surprising to see him get a promotion. He has three goals in five games during the playoffs.
Apr 23 - 7:22 PM

Leo Komarov won't play in Game 6 against the Boston Bruins on Monday night.

Komarov took the pre-game warmup for the second game in a row, but he's clearly not healthy enough to be in the lineup right now. On Sunday, head coach Mike Babcock said the veteran was at 85 percent.

Wild owner, Craig Leipold, announced Monday that the team will not renew the contract of Executive Vice President and General Manager Chuck Fletcher.

"I want to thank Chuck Fletcher for his substantial contributions to our franchise over the past nine years," said Leipold. "Through his strong work ethic, integrity and vision, Chuck and his staff built a winning culture and a perennial playoff team. For all of that I am grateful. I feel it is time for a new approach aimed at delivering a Stanley Cup to the deserving fans of the State of Hockey. I wish Chuck and his family the very best going forward." Brent Flahr, who had been working as the Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations for Minnesota, will serve as acting GM until a replacement is found.

Joe Thornton (knee) will not play in Game 1 against the Vegas Golden Knights.

This was according to coach Peter DeBoer who stated so on Sunday. Thornton has been practicing with the team for a few weeks and has partaken in the warmups as well but his return is still up in the air. Thornton had 36 points in 47 regular season games, so his presence in the lineup will definitely be a bonus once he is able to return.
