Derick Brassard enjoyed a remarkable Rangers debut Wednesday night after being acquired from Columbus.

He generated a goal and added three assists in New York's 6-1 thrashing of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Brassard didn't have much time to think about being traded by the team that drafted him sixth overall in 2006 as he was quickly thrust into game action following the move. "Honestly, when you don't think during the day and you just show up, sometimes you play your best game," he said. "You just jump out there and make plays. I'm going to remember this the rest of my life, for sure." He also won 11 of 15 faceoffs and finished with nearly 13 minutes of ice time.

Joonas Donskoi (lower body) is probable for Thursday's game.

Donskoi has missed the Sharks' last six games due to the injury. He has seven goals and 12 points in 23 contests in 2017-18.
Dec 13 - 4:06 PM

Auston Matthews (upper body) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice.

Matthews is consequently expected to miss Thursday's game. It will be his third straight contest on the sidelines.
Dec 13 - 3:39 PM

Ryan Johansen (upper body) is a game-time decision on Wednesday.

Johansen took part in Wednesday's practice. He has three goals and 17 points in 26 contests this season. If he does play, it will likely be on a line with Nick Bonino and Viktor Arvidsson.
Dec 13 - 3:14 PM

Anders Nilsson will be the Canucks' starter on Wednesday.

Nilsson will be making his second start in the span of three games. He has a 6-3-1 record, 2.71 GAA, and .921 save percentage in 10 contests this season.
Dec 13 - 3:06 PM

Taylor Hall is day-to-day with a knee contusion.

Hall won't be able to play on Thursday, but the news overall is good. He went down with a knee-to-knee collision on Tuesday, so there was a chance that his injury would be more severe than this.
Dec 13 - 1:12 PM

Brandon Dubinsky is expected to miss six-to-eight weeks with a fractured orbital bone.

In other words, Dubinsky is expected to be sidelined until late December or early January. He was hurt while fighting Edmonton's Zack Kassian on Tuesday. He has three goals and 12 points in 31 contests this season.
Dec 13 - 1:01 PM

Kari Lehtonen is expected to start for Dallas on Wednesday.

With this start, Lehtonen will set the record for the most games played by a Finnish goaltender. A victory on Wednesday would also make Lehtonen the 33rd netminder in history to reach the 300-win milestone.
Dec 13 - 12:57 PM

Marcus Johansson (ankle) hasn't resumed skating.

With that in mind, Johansson has been ruled out for Thursday's game in Montreal. He won't even join the Devils on the one-game road trip. It will be his second straight contest on the sidelines.
Dec 13 - 12:31 PM

Taylor Hall (knee) wasn't on the ice for Wednesday's morning skate.

Hall was hurt when he suffered a knee-on-knee hit during Tuesday's game. We don't know yet if he'll travel with the Devils to Montreal ahead of Thursday's contest versus the Canadiens.
Dec 13 - 12:29 PM

Marc-Andre Fleury returned to action Tuesday against the Hurricanes and he allowed two goals on 37 shots in a shootout loss.

It was Fleury's first appearance since Oct. 13 due to a concussion. He looked pretty sharp considering the lengthy layoff, but it's no surprise that once the game went to a shootout he might be at a disadvantage. Bench boss Gerard Gallant made it known the veteran would be making a majority of the starts now that he is healthy, so that's bad news for Malcolm Subban and any other Golden Knights backstops who held down the fort in Fleury's absence.
Dec 13 - 1:31 AM

Cam Ward allowed two goals on 24 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 shootout victory at Vegas, his 300th career win.

Ward is the 32nd goaltender in NHL history to reach 300 victories. He and the Hurricanes didn't have a lot of success last season in the shootout, and they dropped their past three games by one goal. So this was an impressive show of moxie by the young Hurricanes, beating one of the league's best teams at home so far this season. Ward has now won two of his past three starts.
