Peter Budaj will be in Montreal's crease for Thursday night's home game against Winnipeg.

His parents are in town to see him play, which coach Michel Therrien admitted did influence his decision to give him the nod, but Carey Price also started in Wednesday's loss to Philadelphia. Budaj has provided the Canadiens with solid goaltending this season when he's been called upon.

Evander Kane (knee) is progressing ahead of schedule, according to coach Paul Maurice.

"Evander Kane is progressing quite well to the point where we have an expectation that in the next few days, he'll be back on IR skates," said Winnipeg's bench boss. "It's what we call them, non-main-group skates so nobody runs into a guy. But he'll be back on the ice, we think, sometime this weekend and after that, it's as much about strength and healing time and things like that so that's kind of positive news about him." An exact timetable for his return isn't known, but it looks like it will be at some point in November because a return next week may be wishful thinking.

Radko Gudas may be able to return from his lower-body injury as early as Friday's game against Winnipeg.

Coach Jon Cooper said Thursday that Gudas is very close to returning to the lineup. Gudas has missed the past four games due to the ailment.

Niklas Svedberg looks like he's getting the nod for Boston on Thursday versus the Islanders.

New York is going to start Chad Johnson, who battled with Svedberg for the Bruins' backup job at training camp last season. Svedberg owns a 1-1-0 record with a 0.91 goals-against average and a .969 save percentage this year.

Ryan Miller will face the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night.

The Vancouver netminder posted pedestrian numbers with the Blues last season after he was acquired from Buffalo and ultimately St. Louis decided to let him walk as an unrestricted free agent. Miller will be looking to bounce back Thursday from a rough outing against Dallas on Tuesday. He was yanked after he allowed five goals on just 13 shots.
Oct 23 - 1:30 PM

The Ottawa Senators will host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Nov. 9 to make up for Wednesday's contest.

The game was rescheduled because of shooting incidents in Canada's capital that claimed the life of a soldier at the National War Memorial. The game will have a 6:00 p.m. EST start time.
Oct 23 - 12:24 PM

Lubomir Visnovsky (back) will make his season debut in Thursday's game versus Boston.

He had been sidelined with back spasms. Visnovsky was limited to just 24 games last season due to concussion issues. He probably has lost his spot on the Islanders' top power-play unit to Johnny Boychuk, which would be a big blow to his fantasy value.
Oct 23 - 12:11 PM

Chad Johnson will be between the pipes for the Islanders on Thursday night versus his ex-Boston teammates.

He appeared in 27 games with the Bruins last season, as Tuukka Rask's backup. New York starter Jaroslav Halak appears to be getting a breather after he was burned for five goals on 23 shots in Tuesday's loss to Toronto.
Oct 23 - 11:56 AM

Corey Perry picked up his second hat-trick of the season in a 4-1 Ducks win over Buffalo on Wednesday.

It's the second hat-trick already for Perry who now has eight goals and two assists for 10 points through seven games. The sniper absolutely owns the Sabres with 10 goals in 11 career games. Ryan Getzlaf set up two of the goals as the Ducks were in cruise control against the Sabres. The Ducks' dynamic duo are two of the best options in fantasy again this season.
Oct 23 - 1:50 AM

The Philadelphia Flyers will go with Ray Emery against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday.

That's not particularly surprising given that Steve Mason played on Tuesday. Emery has a 2.73 GAA and .907 save percentage in two games this season. Given Mason's rough start to the campaign, there might be an opportunity for Emery to take the starting job if he gets hot.

Charlie Coyle has agreed to a five-year, $16 million extension with the Minnesota Wild.

Coyle is in the last season of his entry-level contract and will come with a $3.2 million annual cap hit starting in 2015-16. This could end up being a great deal for Minnesota. Coyle had 30 points in 70 games last season, but he's capable of doing significantly better than that. We're looking for the 22-year-old forward to get around 45 points this season and if all goes well, he should top that figure in the years to come.
Oct 22 - 5:23 PM

The NHL has postponed Wednesday's game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators.

The game was scheduled to be played at 7:00 p.m. ET. The game hasn't been rescheduled yet. This is in light of the multiple shooting incidents in Ottawa that have occurred Wednesday. One incident involved the shooting of a Canadian soldier at the National War Memorial.
