The Columbus Blue Jackets will get Brandon Dubinsky and Jared Boll back in the lineup on Friday.

Dubinsky was dealing with flu-like symptoms. If he gets regular minutes with former-turned-current teammate Marian Gaborik, Dubinsky can have some significant value as a jack of all trades. Boll's lure is obvious: PIM.

Minnesota Wild goaltender Josh Harding surprised everyone Tuesday when it was revealed he was dealing with an ankle injury.

Details around the severity of the ailment or even how it occurred have not been revealed, but if Harding is sidelined for an extended period it could definitely muddy the Minnesota goaltending situation. Veteran Niklas Backstrom is hoping to remain healthy after last year's injury-filled campaign while Darcy Kuemper has hinted at a potential move to the KHL as part of a testy contract negotiation so the added question makes surrounding Harding are troubling. More information will be passed along as it becomes available.

An unfortunate update on Daniel Alfredsson: he won't participate in at least Detroit Red Wings training camp as he's seeing back specialists.

Could this be it for the long-time veteran? The 41-year-old would leave an outstanding legacy behind with 444 goals and 1,157 points in 1,246 career NHL regular season games. He was still pretty productive last season, yet the Red Wings seemed reluctant to commit to him in 2014-15. That hesitance will only grow now.

The Detroit Red Wings signed Dan DeKeyser to a two-year contract on Tuesday.

This one came right down to the wire as far as the defenseman's stated goal in participating in training camp is concerned. The 24-year-old seems to have solid if unspectacular potential in fantasy terms; he scored four goals and 23 points in 65 games last season while compiling 30 PIM and averaging 21:38 TOI. Nothing amazing, but if he continues to grow he should be a solid depth D option in fantasy.

The St. Louis Blues have extended a training camp tryout offer to Paul Bissonnette.

Bissonnette is a physical depth forward that, to be honest, might be better known for as a Twitter personality than a hockey player. That's not to suggest that Bissonnette has no value on the ice though. He's a physical forward that can fit in on the fourth line and if he gets into a situation where he's playing regularly, then he'd be a decent source of penalty minutes in fantasy leagues.

Daniel Alfredsson (back) might miss the start of training camp.

"I'm not sure if he'll be able to report to camp on Wednesday," GM Ken Holland said. "I want to see how he's feeling and talk to his agent. I also want to talk to Alfie in the next 24 hours." Alfredsson didn't take to the ice on Monday after he tweaked his back last week. The veteran winger is trying to decide if he'll return for another season, but lingering back issues could stand in the way.

TSN's Bob McKenzie reports that there's "no thaw yet" in the standoff between Minnesota and goaltender Darcy Kuemper.

The Wild want to get the 24-year-old netminder under a two-way contract, but Kuemper is reportedly seeking a one-year, one-way deal at $850,000.

The Montreal Canadiens won't feature a captain for the 2014-15 season.

Tomas Plekanec, Andrei Markov, Max Pacioretty and P.K. Subban will serve as alternates. Subban will have an "A" on his sweater during home games for the first half of the season and Pacioretty will wear an "A" for road games. The two of them will switch midway through the year.

Eric Gelinas has agreed to a one-year, $900,000 deal with the New Jersey Devils.

"It worked out over the weekend," GM Lou Lamoriello said. "He's here and there are certainly no issues. He's just getting ready. I'm just happy to have everybody here and everybody ready. It's the first step towards getting our team together. We've got all our players here and now training camp begins." The 23-year-old defender recorded seven goals and 29 points in 60 games last season.

Brayden Schenn is the front runner for the job as the first line left winger with the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Flyers dealt Scott Hartnell who played on the left side with Claude Giroux and Jacob Voracek on the first line. The Flyers are deep down the middle with Giroux, Schenn, Vincent Lecavalier, Sean Couturier as well as rookie Scott Laughton so it makes sense that someone moves to the wing. Others being considered are: Michael Raffl, R.J. Umberger and Lecavalier. Schenn had 20 goals and 41 points last season and his numbers would jump exponentially if he gets the gig on the first line.

The New York Rangers could name Ryan McDonagh their new captain as early as Thursday.

Ryan Callahan was the old captain of the Rangers but was dealt during the 2013-14 season to Tampa Bay and the Rangers did not name another captain for the rest of the season. "I think I've progressed into being a go-to guy, someone teammates can look up to and someone they can count on," McDonagh said. "I think guys see I'm willing to do whatever it takes to win... (Captain) is a big responsibility, too. It's not just about on the ice but how you carry yourself off of it and represent the organization." McDonagh had a big offensive season for New York in 2013-14 with 14 goals and 43 points in 77 games with a plus-11 rating and 13 power play points. He should be a lower end number one defenseman in a 12 team fantasy league.

Leon Draisaitl scared everyone on Friday when he left the ice favoring his right leg.

Everyone in Edmonton was holding their respective breaths but it turned out to only be a leg cramp for the third overall pick in the 2014 Draft. Draisaitl will need more than a day to recover as even a couple bottles of an energy drink did not help but he should be fine for the start of training camp this week. "I've never had it that bad. I had it once in one game in the third period last season in Prince Albert and that's it. I had a Powerade and after that I was totally fine. I had two bottles Friday and it wouldn't get better. It was pretty scary." Draisaitl sat out Saturday's game. Look for a big season from Draisaitl as he is one of the favorites for the Calder Trophy.
