Marc Staal returned to the Rangers lineup after missing the last 27 games of the year.

Staal suffered a gruesome eye injury on a deflected shot on March 5. He played 17:17, so it wasn't like coach John Tortorella eased him in. "I thought I would be more nervous than I was," said Staal, who wore a visor and finished a minus-one. "I felt pretty good going into the game, and I think the confidence is going to grow the more I’m out there and the more I’m in game situations. "I’ll feel a lot better next game." Tortorella said that beyond his on-ice presence, he "really helps the room." His addition is a big one for the Blueshirts, as it deepens their defense.

Nathan MacKinnon tallied points on all of the Avalanche's goals in their 4-2 win over the Wild in Game 2 on Saturday night.

As if MacKinnon's rookie season in which he scored 24 times and had 63 points wasn't good enough, the 18-year-old is simply putting on a show at the early stages of the playoffs. MacKinnon scored the team's first goal off a slick move and wrist shot and assisted on the rest, to give him seven points in the playoffs. He played 17:05 and had four shots on goal. Captain Gabriel Landeskog scored two times, playing 18:03 and recording five shots on goal. Paul Stastny scored the other goal, via the empty net, while chipping in with three assists, too. The Avs lead the series 2-0.

No update was given on Brian Gibbons' status after Game 2 on Saturday night.

The NHL is reviewing Brent Seabrook's hit on David Backes that occurred at 15:19 of the third period in Game 2 of the series between the Blackhawks and Blues.

Not surprising news at all. The Blackhawks defenseman leveled Backes, who did not have the puck and was in a vulnerable position behind the net, with a high hit, connecting with his head. Seabrook was given fiven minutes for charging and a game misconduct, while Backes looked wobbly and departed from the game.
