Canucks GM Mike Gillis has fired Alain Vigneault "after a thorough review."

Gillis cited the Canucks' lack of playoff success as the primary reason they decided to make a change. Vancouver has been great in the regular season, but endured fast exits from the 2012 and 2013 playoffs. He didn't want to give any hints as to who the next head coach might be, but he did say that the problems went beyond their now former coach. "Everyone will be addressed," Gillis said. This might be an eventful summer for Vancouver.

Trevor Daley is expected to miss "weeks" after he was hit knee-on-knee by Islanders forward Matt Martin.

He finished the game with just 43 seconds of ice time after he was injured on his second shift. Coach Lindy Ruff expects Martin to be suspended and he has a hearing scheduled for Wednesday. Daley is a big loss for the Stars. He averages 23:07 of ice time and he has collected personal highs with 16 goals and 33 points in 61 contests.

Brett Connolly had to leave practice Wednesday after he was struck in the right hand/wrist area by a shot.

"He got hit in the hand with a puck, so he's gone to see our team doctor to be evaluated," coach Claude Julien said. Connolly was skating with Carl Soderberg and Loui Eriksson in the session. He wasn't able to return.

Andrew Hammond will get the nod for Ottawa again on Wednesday.

Craig Anderson (hand) isn't ready to play yet, so Hammond will start against Winnipeg after he played in Tuesday's 3-2 shootout loss to Minnesota. Hammond has been superb in his previous six starts for the Senators.

Jordan Caron skated alongside Matt Duchene and Jarome Iginla at practice on Tuesday.

He didn't record a point in 11 games for Boston this season, but Colorado appears to be giving him a good opportunity to succeed right off the bat. "It hasn't always been the way I wanted it to be in Boston, so I'm excited for a new start and to prove people wrong and show what I can do in the NHL," Caron said.

He picked up a five-minute major for kneeing and a game misconduct just 1:48 into the opening period.

Dan Ellis has been called up by Florida.

Al Montoya is out with a groin injury that he sustained Tuesday night and the status of Roberto Luongo is uncertain after he suffered an upper-body injury in the same game. Ellis could end up being Florida's starter on Thursday against Dallas.

Frederik Andersen tied the NHL record for the fastest goaltender to reach the 50 career wins milestone when it comes to total decisions.

Andersen only needed 68 decisions (50-13-5) to reach that mark. Only Montreal's Bill Durnan, who got to the 50-win milestone on Dec. 16, 1944, has the same pace as Andersen in the history of the league. Andersen kicked out 29 of 30 shots in a 4-1 victory over Arizona on Tuesday. It was his first start since Feb. 8 due to a neck injury.

According to a report out of Pittsburgh, Christian Ehrhoff's concussion-like symptoms have returned.

"I had a little bump in the road," Ehrhoff said. "I felt great Wednesday coming back and the next day, too. But I had some symptoms again, and we're being cautious with that. I've been seeing the doctors." It was a relapse of the symptoms for Ehrhoff who was sidelined for 13 of the last 14 games for Pittsburgh. Ehrhoff was scheduled to travel with the team Tuesday for the game tonight against Colorado in Denver but that seems unlikely now. We will pass along more information when it comes but be prepared to have him out of the lineup for a little while longer at least.

Henrik Sedin became the third fastest Swedish born NHL player to crack the 900 point mark with two goals in a 5-2 loss to San Jose on Tuesday.

Henrik Sedin has been racking up points during an eight game streak. He has five goals and 13 total points over the stretch for the injury riddled Canucks. Henrik's 44 assists rank third overall in the NHL and his 59 points in 64 games is good for 19th in the league. Brother Daniel picked up two assists in the loss and now has 56 points in his own right this year. It has been a really nice bounce-back year for the Sedins, who some people thought were on the wrong side of their careers after last season's dreadful campaign. Start them in all formats confidently.

Antti Niemi turned aside 26-of-28 shots in 6-2 win over Vancouver on Tuesday.

There has been a lot of talk about Niemi being shipped out of town at the trade deadline or in the offseason but he didn't let any of that bother him on this night. The win broke a three game win-less streak of starts for Niemi. Niemi's 2.64 goals-against-average is below average for number a goalie though that is likely why he will lose starts to the younger Alex Stalock down the stretch.
