GM Don Maloney has agreed to a long-term contract extension with the Phoenix Coyotes.

"We are very pleased that Don has agreed to sign a long-term contract extension with the Coyotes," said NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly. "Since joining the team in 2007, Don has done an outstanding job managing his team and building a competitive roster that has produced on the ice, even given less than ideal circumstances off the ice. The NHL remains committed to securing the Coyotes' future in Glendale under new ownership, and we believe Don's long-term agreement evidences that he is equally committed." Under Maloney's leadership, the Coyotes have achieved on-ice success despite difficult and unique circumstances. Although the team missed the playoffs in the shortened season, the Coyotes made it to the Western Conference finals for the first time in their franchise's history in 2012.

Kyle Okposo (illness) will play in Tuesday's game against the Golden Knights.

Okposo has missed the last two games because of the illness. The winger is off to a rough start this season, as he has no goals, no points and a minus-6 rating in four games this season. "Basically sitting in a hotel room for 2 1/2 straight days is not good stuff," Okposo said. "It's good to feel like a human being again being out and about and resuming normal activities."
Oct 17 - 3:47 PM

Chad Johnson will get the start in Tuesday's game against Vegas.

This will be Johnson's second consecutive start. He stopped 25 of 26 shots in last weekend's win over Anaheim, so head coach Phil Housley is going back to him tonight. Johnson has a 3.67 goals-against-average and a .875 save percentage this season.
Oct 17 - 3:33 PM

Patrice Bergeron might be able to suit up against Vancouver on Thursday night.

Bergeron has been out with a lower-body injury, but he's been able to hit the ice over the last few days. We'll find out more about his status in the next two days. David Backes (illness) could also return to the lineup on Thursday.
Oct 17 - 2:07 PM

David Backes took part in Bruins practice on Tuesday.

Backes has been dealing with diverticulitis this season. He was wearing a black practice jersey, so there were no restrictions on him. Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy said Backes might be able to play on Thursday night.
Oct 17 - 2:04 PM

Adin Hill will get the start in Tuesday's game against the Dallas Stars.

The 21-year-old was a third-round draft pick 2015. He made 40 starts in the AHL last season and he's at two starts this season. Hill has a 0.65 goals-against-average and a .968 save percentage in the minors this season.
Oct 17 - 1:43 PM

Laurent Brossoit will be between the pipes for Tuesday's game against the Hurricanes.

Brossoit hasn't started a game for the Oilers yet, but he's made two relief appearances. For what it's worth, Brossoit had a 30-save shutout against Carolina during the preseason. He owns a 2.11 goals-against-average and a .926 save percentage this season.
Oct 17 - 12:47 PM

Joonas Korpisalo will get the start in Tuesday's game against the Winnipeg Jets.

This will be Korpisalo's second appearance of the season, as he dropped a decision to Chicago back on Oct. 7. He doesn't own any fantasy value right now. He'll continue to be nothing more than Sergei Bobrovsky's backup goalie.
Oct 17 - 12:44 PM

Curtis McElhinney is expected to get the start in Wednesday's game against the Detroit Red Wings.

This would be his first appearance of the 2017-18 season. McElhinney had a 6-7-0 record with a 2.85 goals-against-average and a .914 save percentage last season. He's nothing more than a backup goalie, so he won't have any fantasy value going forward.
Oct 17 - 12:28 PM

Andrei Vasilevskiy turned aside 29 of 31 shots in Monday's 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

The win extends Vasilevskiy's winning streak to four games. The Red Wings scored both of their goals in the second period (one came off a penalty shot). Vasilevskiy has been terrific so far this season. He now owns a 5-1-0 record with a 3.00 goals-against-average and a .914 save percentage this season. His individual numbers might not stand out, but he's been a key part of Tampa's success. He's a must-own and must-start in all fantasy leagues whenever he's between the pipes.
Oct 16 - 10:53 PM

Justin Abdelkader scored a goal and an assist in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Red Wings found themselves down 2-0 heading into the first intermission, but they managed to fight back in the second frame. Abdelkader cut the lead to 2-1 by converting on a penalty shot at the 2:30 mark of the period. He then registered the primary assist on Mike Green's first goal of the season. Unfortunately for the Wings, Nikita Kucherov scored the game-winning goal (his second of the game) in the third period. After picking up just one point in his first four games of the season, Abdelkader has now recorded three points in his last two games. He has two goals and two assists in six games this season.
Oct 16 - 10:29 PM

Nikita Kucherov scored a pair of goals in Monday's 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

After Tyler Johnson opened the scoring at the 9:15 mark of the first period, Kucherov made it 2-0 less than two minutes later. The Russian winger then scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period which proved to be the game-winner. Kucherov finished the game with a plus-1 rating, two penalty minutes, a team-high six shots on goal in 20:50 of ice time. He's now scored at least one goal in each of Tampa Bay's first six games. Kucherov has seven goals and 10 points in six games. He's one of the elite offensive players in the league right now.
