The Red Wings were completely outplayed in their 4-1 loss to the Blackhawks in Chicago Saturday night and veteran forward Daniel Cleary thinks his team will require a more disciplined approach to prevent the Hawks from coming back and taking this Western playoff series.

The Wings were ahead 3-1 in the best-of-seven set and, after Saturday, remain ahead 3-2. "We gift-wrapped a couple goals," said Cleary, who scored the Wings' lone goal. "We gotta be more disciplined. Look, they played better than us, played harder, played more determined. It's hard to match that when their backs are against the wall. We have to be ready to go Monday night as if our backs are against the wall, which I like to think they are. As a young team, we just have to tell them to play loose, not tentative or scared," Cleary said. "You can't be afraid of success. You gotta go out and take it. The Blackhawks flat-out just wanted to win more than us, and we have to have the same mentality."

Ryan Johansen, a restricted free agent who led the Blue Jackets in scoring last season, has left Columbus on the eve of training camp, unhappy with the club's contract offer to him - but coach Todd Richards insists he won't let the matter distract his team.

"Right now he's not here," Richards said. "I'm treating it like the regular season when you deal with an injury. He's not in the lineup. You move past it. If he's in the lineup, great; if not, I've got to find somebody else that'll do it. The one thing that will become an issue from what I've seen in the past, just based on my history and what I've been through as a coach, is when you miss time in training camp you try to play catch-up and a lot of times you can't catch up."

Ilya Bryzgalov has accepted a professional tryout with the Minnesota Wild and he will be at camp.

He expressed his wish to return to the Wild during the summer and it looks like he will get his chance following the news that Josh Harding is out indefinitely due to a fractured foot. Bryzgalov played well for the Wild down the stretch last year, while posting a 7-1-3 record to go with a .911 save percentage and a 2.12 GAA.

Minnesota has announced that Josh Harding has a fractured right foot.

He will be sidelined indefinitely due to the ailment. After receiving some encouraging news last month that Harding would be ready for training camp, he was injured in an off-ice activity. TSN's Bob McKenzie reported earlier that Harding could be out for months.

According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, Josh Harding's ankle injury is "significant."

The ailment he sustained off the ice is expected to keep him sidelined for months rather than weeks. McKenzie reports that Harding is already on crutches and sporting a walking boot.

Columbus GM Jarmo Kekalainen isn't sure if Nathan Horton (back) will miss the start of the season.

The injury isn't expected to be long term. Shoulder and abdominal injuries sidelined Horton for most of the 2013-14 season. His back ailment could limit his participation at the start of training camp. We'll keep you posted on his status.

Justin Braun has reached a five-year contract extension with the San Jose Sharks.

"Justin has emerged as one of our most well-rounded and dependable defensemen," said GM Doug Wilson. "He's an excellent skater who excels in matching up against the opponents top players on a nightly basis and fits in well with our core group of younger players. We feel Justin has just scratched the surface of his talent and we are excited to have him under contract for the next six seasons." His new deal won't go into effect until the end of the 2014-15 campaign. In 82 games last year, Braun registered 17 points, 121 shots and a plus-19 rating.

Bobby Ryan hinted on Wednesday that the Ottawa Senators have offered him a seven-year contract.

"If you're going to hitch your wagon to a team for seven years, it's okay to take some time to decide if it's what you want to do or not," he said. "Everything I've said and still feel is that I'd love to be here long term, but you need some assurance and you need some motivating factor, to not get it done at this early stage isn't a tragedy." The Senators have not commented on the potential offer, but GM Bryan Murray did say on Monday that the team will push to get something done sometime in October or November.

Minnesota Wild goaltender Josh Harding surprised everyone Tuesday when it was revealed he was dealing with an ankle injury.

Details around the severity of the ailment or even how it occurred have not been revealed, but if Harding is sidelined for an extended period it could definitely muddy the Minnesota goaltending situation. Veteran Niklas Backstrom is hoping to remain healthy after last year's injury-filled campaign while Darcy Kuemper has hinted at a potential move to the KHL as part of a testy contract negotiation so the added question makes surrounding Harding are troubling. More information will be passed along as it becomes available.

An unfortunate update on Daniel Alfredsson: he won't participate in at least Detroit Red Wings training camp as he's seeing back specialists.

Could this be it for the long-time veteran? The 41-year-old would leave an outstanding legacy behind with 444 goals and 1,157 points in 1,246 career NHL regular season games. He was still pretty productive last season, yet the Red Wings seemed reluctant to commit to him in 2014-15. That hesitance will only grow now.

The Detroit Red Wings signed Dan DeKeyser to a two-year contract on Tuesday.

This one came right down to the wire as far as the defenseman's stated goal in participating in training camp is concerned. The 24-year-old seems to have solid if unspectacular potential in fantasy terms; he scored four goals and 23 points in 65 games last season while compiling 30 PIM and averaging 21:38 TOI. Nothing amazing, but if he continues to grow he should be a solid depth D option in fantasy.

The St. Louis Blues have extended a training camp tryout offer to Paul Bissonnette.

Bissonnette is a physical depth forward that, to be honest, might be better known for as a Twitter personality than a hockey player. That's not to suggest that Bissonnette has no value on the ice though. He's a physical forward that can fit in on the fourth line and if he gets into a situation where he's playing regularly, then he'd be a decent source of penalty minutes in fantasy leagues.
