Phoenix Coyotes GM Don Maloney says he's been talking with coach Dave Tippett about a new contract.

Maloney made the statement at the press conference to announce his own contract extension. Tippett's deal expires on June 30 and there's a good enough chance he might bolt the desert due to the ongoing ownership saga. TSN reported over the weekend that the NHL is moving towards an agreement with a group of Canadian investors, but there are a lot of conditions that have to be met before anything is finalized.

Unrestricted free agent Carlo Colaiacovo has been signed by the Philadelphia Flyers, terms of the contract have not yet been released.

After defensemen Braydon Coburn and Andrew MacDonald both placed on I/R this week, and GM Ron Hextall's stated disdain for calling up touted prospect Shayne Gostisbehere, a signing in Philly was inevitable. The lefty Colaiacovo, still just 31 years old, brings 401 games of experience with 144 points to his credit since 2005. But he hasn't played at least 60 games since 2011 mostly due to injuries.

Jake Allen made 24 saves for the shutout Thursday night, taming the West's third best offense in a 2-0 win.

Allen improves to 2-1 on the season as he avenges his last outing, a 4-1 loss to Vancouver last week. Though Brian Elliott has received six of the nine starts this season, Allen's caliber might warrant another start in the near future despite the team's lack of back-to-back games coming up. Alex Steen scored the winner in the first period for St. Louis.

Marian Hossa reached the 1,000 point plateau on Thursday night by collecting a goal and an assist in Chicago's 5-4 shootout win over Ottawa.

"What a special night, it's a great milestone," Hossa said after the game. "I'm really grateful to all the players that helped me achieve this." Hossa scored midway through the third period to crack the century mark in his 1,100th NHL game. He has five points through 10 games this season.
Oct 30 - 10:52 PM

Brad Marchand registered the game-tying goal late in the third period and the game-winner in overtime on Thursday night to lead Boston past Buffalo 3-2.

Marchand was kept off the scoresheet for three consecutive games, but he broke out of the slump in a big way, saving the Bruins from an embarrassing loss to Buffalo. The Sabres managed just 15 shots compared to Boston's 37, but were somehow leading the slumping Bruins thanks to Jhonas Enroth's goaltending. Marchand has three goals and six points in 10 games so far.
Oct 30 - 10:39 PM

Marc-Andre Fleury shut out the defending champion Kings to earn his third straight victory and buoy Pittsburgh to a 3-0 win on Thursday night.

Fleury stopped a whopping 36 shots in notching his second shutout of the past three games. Fleury is 6-2 so far this season with a 2.13 goals against average and .926 save percentage. Fleury has a nice shot to extend his winning streak to four with the Buffalo Sabres coming to town on Saturday.

Chad Johnson will get the nod for the Islanders on Thursday versus Colorado.

He allowed five goals on 31 shots in his last outing, but he won 7-5 decision against Dallas. Johnson owns a 3-0-0 record with an .891 save percentage and a 3.00 goals-against average. Jaroslav Halak has lost his last three games, while allowing 11 goals against.

Evander Kane (knee) has been activated from injured reserve and he'll be back in the lineup for Winnipeg on Thursday against New Jersey.

T.J. Oshie sustained a concussion in Tuesday's overtime win over Dallas.

"Oshie has something else going, plus the concussion," coach Ken Hitchcock said Thursday. "We're not sure whether it's the bacterial (infection)." Oshie was apparently concussed after he was shoved into the goal post. He is out indefinitely.
Oct 30 - 1:19 PM

David Backes has been diagnosed with a concussion.

He is out indefinitely after he was injured in Tuesday's game versus Dallas. Backes' head hit the ice after a hit by Stars defenseman Trevor Daley.
