Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News believes the Sharks will part ways with Martin Havlat this off-season.

He speculates that the team will try to trade him elsewhere first and if that doesn't work then he might become a candidate for an amnesty buyout. Havlat is owed $10 million over the next two seasons and he hasn't been effective, while dealing with injuries, in two years with the Sharks.

Jonathan Quick allowed two goals on 31 shots in a 2-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks.

Quick appeared to have eyes behind the back of his head to somehow reach back and cover up the puck on what would have been a sure goal. Unfortunately, his heroics weren't enough as he has now lost five straight. The veteran goaltender is now one more loss shy of matching his season-high of six straight losses that occurred between Nov. 9-22. His record drops to 19-16-2 with a 2.34 goals against average and a .924 save percentage.

William Karlsson scored a goal in Friday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Florida Panthers.

Karlsson has arguably been the biggest surprise of the season in the entire NHL so far. His goal at the 6:54 mark of the second period tied the game at two. Karlsson has now found the back of the net eight times in his last nine games. The 24-year-old has 25 goals and 39 points in 45 games this season. His previous career high was nine goals (2015-16 with Columbus). David Perron and James Neal also scored for the Golden Knights in loss.
Jan 19 - 10:38 PM

Aleksander Barkov picked up a goal and two assists in Friday's 4-3 overtime win over the Vegas Golden Knights.

Barkov's shorthanded goal in the first period gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead at the time. The Panthers forward also registered the primary assist on Evgenii Dadonov's go-ahead tally (3-2) in the third frame. In overtime, Barkov was denied on a beautiful breakaway attempt, but he ended up collecting the primary assist when Aaron Ekblad scored the game-winning goal just a few seconds later. He finished the game with a plus-2 rating, five shots on goal and two blocked shots in 19:39 of ice time. The 22-year-old now has 15 goals and 43 points in 43 games this season.
Jan 19 - 10:34 PM

John Carlson scored a power play goal in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens.

Carlson's perfect blast from the point tied the game at one in the second period. The Capitals defender finished the night with a minus-1 rating, eight shots on goal and a blocked shot in 29:11 of ice time. Carlson now has accumulated nine points in his last nine contests. He's up to six goals and 36 points in 47 games. He'll continue to be a strong fantasy option in all fantasy formats. Lars Eller also found the back of the net for the Capitals on Friday night.
Jan 19 - 10:18 PM

Max Pacioretty scored two goals and an assist in Friday's 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals.

Pacioretty opened the scoring with a power play goal at the 7:08 mark of the second period. He then gave the Canadiens a 3-1 lead with an empty-netter at the 18:42 mark of the third frame (that proved to be the game-winning goal). Pacioretty also registered the primary assist on Paul Byron's tally in the third frame. After going through a long slump, the Canadiens captain has certainly come alive over the last few games. Pacioretty has now found the back of the net six times in his last six contests. He's up to 14 goals and 28 points in 46 games this season.
Jan 19 - 10:14 PM

Nino Niederreiter (lower body) will be out until after the All-Star break.

That means that Niederreiter won't be back in the lineup before Jan. 30. Head coach Bruce Boudreau called the situation "a setback". The Wild forward suffered the injury in Monday's practice and he hasn't played since. He has 13 goals and 19 points in 31 games this season.
Jan 19 - 8:34 PM

Malcolm Subban will get the start in Friday's game against the Florida Panthers.

Subban last played on Jan. 5 when he beat the Chicago Blackhawks by a score of 5-4. He owns an 11-2-0 record with a 2.38 goals-against-average and a .918 save percentage this season.
Jan 19 - 6:42 PM

Brandon Tanev (lower body) has been taken off the injured reserve list.

Tanev took part in Friday's practice and is expected to make his return on Saturday. Look for him to play on a line with Andrew Copp and Joel Armia.
Jan 19 - 5:07 PM

It looks like Philipp Grubauer will start for the Capitals Friday night.

That makes sense given that this is Washington's second game in as many days, so it's a logical time to rest Braden Holtby. Grubauer's been great lately too, with a 3-0-2 record, 1.04 GAA, and .965 save percentage in his last six games.
Jan 19 - 5:03 PM

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is expected to be sidelined for the next five-to-six weeks.

The Oilers have termed Nugent-Hopkins' issue as simply being upper-body, but he's reportedly dealing with a bruised sternum and cracked ribs. This is a particularly unfortunate development given that Nugent-Hopkins had been one of the few positives in Edmonton's season thus far. He has 16 goals and 31 points in 46 contests this season.
Jan 19 - 4:12 PM

Morgan Rielly is dealing with an upper-body injury.

Rielly missed Friday's practice as a result. He's questionable for Saturday's game.
