Rookie defenseman Dan DeKeyser will join Grand Rapids for the rest of the AHL playoffs now that his broken thumb has healed.

DeKeyser appeared in two playoff games for the Wings before getting injured and he skated in 11 regular-season contests after being signed as a free agent out of college.

Marian Gaborik has undergone an unspecified procedure that will prevent him from being ready for training camp.

Gaborik will be entering the fourth season of his seven-year, $34,125,000 contract. The Kings were gambling when they signed Gaborik to a lengthy contract given his injury history and unfortunately it hasn't paid off for them. Gaborik has been limited to just 54 and 56 games in each of the last two campaigns and hasn't been productive offensively when he has played. Nevertheless Kings GM Rob Blake said Gaborik will get a clean slate when he's ready to return.

Joe Thornton was playing with a torn MCL and ACL in the playoffs.

"I've never seen a guy play with a torn MCL and ACL... It's a courageous effort as I've ever seen," Sharks coach Peter DeBoer. That's an understatement. It's amazing to think that Thornton was playing through that severe of an injury. Thornton had two assists and averaged 18:50 minutes in four postseason games, which is remarkable when you consider what he was working with. We have to wonder though if he'll be healthy enough to participate in training camp or if he might even miss a significant chunk of the 2017-18 campaign. Keep in mind that Thornton is also scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, so he might go unsigned this summer as teams wait to see how healthy the 37-year-old is come September.

Carey Price would like to sign an extension with the Montreal Canadiens.

"I want to stay here," Price said. "I know we'll figure out a way to make all the pieces fit and bring a championship here." Price is entering the final season of his six-year, $39 million contract, so he can sign an extension this summer. Locking Price up will be critical for Montreal as Price is the center of the team after winning the Vezina Trophy in 2015 and being a finalist again this season. The question is how big Price's cap hit will be. Henrik Lundqvist currently has the biggest cap hit of any goaltender at $8.5 million annually and Price can likely command more than that if he chooses to.

Andrei Markov would like to finish his career with the Montreal Canadiens.

Markov has completed his three-year, $17.25 million contract. He's 38 years old, but he still was an offensive contributor in 2016-17 with six goals and 36 points in 62 games. He also had a plus-18 rating and logged 21:50 minutes per contest. He's spent his entire 990 game career with Montreal and we imagine that the two sides will be able to find a common ground during their contract talks.

Dennis Seidenberg has agreed to a one-year, $1.25 million extension with the New York Islanders.

That's a raise on the $1 million he earned from New York in 2016-17 after being bought out by the Boston Bruins. He had five goals and 22 points in 73 games while averaging 19:26 minutes per contest with the Islanders this season.

Marcus Johansson scored a late tying goal and an overtime winner in Game 6 to lead the Capitals to a wild 2-1 overtime win over the Maple Leafs on Sunday evening.

Johansson's first two goals of the playoffs wrapped up a surprisingly tough first round series for the Presidents Trophy winners. After the Maple Leafs took two of the first three games, the Capitals won the final three to set up a second round date with the Penguins. Johansson, who totaled five points in the six-game series, flipped a rebound home from the top of the goal mouth to seal the deal.

Johnny Gaudreau was named a finalist for the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy on Sunday.

The trophy "is an annual award given to the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability." It is voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association. The last member of the Flames to win it was Jiri Hudler in 2014. Bob MacMillan was the first Flame to take home the honors in 1979, when the team was still in Atlanta. Hall of Famer and Flames' Cup champion Joe Mullen won the other two times for the franchise, in 1987 and 1989.

Clarke MacArthur netted the overtime winner in Ottawa's 3-2 victory against Boston in Game 6 Sunday afternoon.

With that, Ottawa has eliminated Boston and advanced to the second round where the Senators will face the New York Rangers. Bobby Ryan scored a goal and registered an assist for Ottawa, giving him seven points in six postseason contests. Kyle Turris netted Ottawa's other goal on Sunday. Derick Brassard assisted on two of the Senators' three markers. He had two goals and eight points in the first round.

David Krejci (lower body) isn't available for Game 6 on Sunday.

Krejci suffered a lower-body injury in Friday's game. He had 23 goals and 54 points in 82 regular season games, but had been held off the scoresheet in three playoff contests. The Bruins need to win Game 6 to stay alive in the first round.
Apr 23 - 2:15 PM

Karl Alzner will not play in Game 6 Sunday.

Alzner was a participant in the morning skate but the decision has been made to sit him out with an upper body injury. It is the fourth straight game he has missed and the Capitals will go with six defensemen and 12 forwards against the Maple Leafs.

John Stevens will become the next head coach of the Los Angeles Kings.

The Kings haven't issued their formal announcement yet, but Kings GM Rob Blake has already confirmed the decision, so consider it official. Stevens spent parts of four seasons as the Philadelphia Flyers' bench boss from 2006-2009 and posted a 120-109-34 record in that role. Under his leadership Philadelphia made it to the Eastern Conference Final in 2008. After his tenure with the Flyers ended, he joined the Los Angeles Kings where he's been serving as an assistant and more recently associate coach. He also briefly served as the Kings' interim head coach in 2011-12 during the period between the firing of Terry Murray and hiring of Darryl Sutter.
