Updating a previous item, the Lightning have confirmed that they have signed Reto Suri to a one-year, two-way contract.

"He's a good skater and a smart player," GM Steve Yzerman said. "He's got good skills and good hands and we like him because he's a very responsible player. He's got good size. He's strong. He checks well. For us, he compliments some of the younger prospects we have coming. He's something we can really use." His deal with Tampa Bay won't kick in until the 2014-15 season because he wants to play another campaign with Zug in Switzerland's top league. Suri wants to continue to develop and to have the best chance possible to represent the Swiss national team at the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The New York Islanders took Mikhail Grabovski off injured reserve on Saturday. He's expected to play against the Dallas Stars in tonight's game.

In four games, Grabovski - listed at all three forward positions in Yahoo - has two goals, one assist, a +3 rating, four blocked shots and seven SOG. With Josh Bailey injured, this is a welcome return for the Islanders.

Nashville Predators forward James Neal and Pittsburgh Penguins winger Patric Hornqvist both have added motivation for Saturday night as they face their respective former teams in the first head-to-head match since the big trade.

Though not a guarantee, that motivation can often mean fantasy hockey dividends, whether it comes down to extra points or PIM. Neal is on a hot streak (all five goals in his last four games including Thursday's hat trick), while Hornqvist has been held off the board in his last two games. Both aren't shy about shooting, either.

Look for Phil Kessel to have a big night against the Bruins Saturday.

As the Buds' number one offensive threat Kessel is always on the ice opposite the Bruins' top defender Zdeno Chara. With Chara injured, look for Kessel to have a lot more room to dart around and create offensive chances. If you have Kessel on your fantasy team, make sure he is active as he loves to play against his former club generally, and without Chara in the Boston lineup he might actually have some fun.

Patric Hornqvist will face his former teammates from Nashville for the first time on Saturday.

The Predators will host the Penguins as Hornqvist and Nick Spaling will make their first appearance back in Nashville since the off-season deal. The deal has worked out for both sides thus far with Hornqvist compiling four goals and eight points in six games while James Neal, who went to the Predators has five goals for Nashville in the early going.

The Philadelphia Flyers, in dire need of help on the blueline, could be interested in the services of Ryan Whitney.

After Whitney was released from his professional tryout with the St. Louis Blues after training camp, Whitney was not on anyone's radar so he signed a deal with HC Sochi of the KHL. The fortunate part is that Whitney has an out clause with Sochi and he has yet to play a game with the club. If he does play at least one game, he will have to go through waivers if he re-signs with an NHL squad this season, so the time frame to sign him is narrowing quickly. The Flyers lost two defensemen this week as Braydon Coburn and Andrew MacDonald are both expected to miss four weeks with injuries.

Rookie Johnny Gaudreau is a plus-four in eight games thus far this season.

The speedy rookie has a goal and two assists as well. Gaudreau spent a game in the press box a week ago and has been on fire ever since, giving the Flames no reason to have him just watch games. He is worth having on your fantasy roster in all but the shallowest of leagues.

Corey Perry had another great night, netting a pretty goal and assist as well as screening for a third Anaheim goal in their 4-1 win over Columbus on Friday night.

Perry took Sami Vatanen's slap-pass by the goal line and dangled his way across Sergei Bobrovsky's crease for a dazzling powerplay goal to open the scoring 88-seconds in. Seven minutes later he was the screen for Vatanen's PPG. Later he set up Devante Smith-Pelley slick redirection to make it 3-1 by mid game. Perry just might be out for another MVP trophy this season.

Cory Schneider stood tall Friday night against Dallas, turning away 35-37 shots through overtime before losing 3-2 in the shootout.

I'd say, "again", but this is just the first shootout loss of the season. Schneider was a big reason why the Devils even got one point against Dallas, turning away several solid scoring chances throughout the game. However, Patrick Eaves' goal to make it 2-1 Dallas was very soft. Schneider needs to seal the short side on that one, just as he had to be better in the shootouts. Jamie Benn's winner was equally soft, albeit to the far side. Continue to deploy Schneider with confidence.

Joe Pavelski is expected serve as the San Jose Sharks' third-line center on Saturday.

Pavelski's projected linemates are Tommy Wingels and Chris Tierney. Pavelski has gotten off to a great start with four goals and eight points in eight games, but Sharks coach Todd McLellan thinks moving Pavelski down to the third line will help them defensively. "We're kind of going in waves where we have a line or two that's responsible and then one that falls off, and it varies," McLellan said. "It’s not just the top lines or the third or fourth lines. It varies. We're trying to find some balance defensively. I think offensively we've been fine." Pavelski has been playing primarily with Joe Thornton and Tomas Hertl this season.

Alex Stalock will start for the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.

Stalock has a 2.33 GAA and .933 save percentage in three games this season. He'll play against the Buffalo Sabres, which are typically a favorable team for opposing goaltenders.
Oct 24 - 5:51 PM

John Gibson is expected to start in Friday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Gibson played in the Ducks' season opener against Pittsburgh, but he allowed six goals on 39 shots in that game. Frederik Andersen started in Anaheim's second game and has gone on an impressive 6-0-0 run. In the middle of that, Gibson asked the Ducks if he could be temporarily reassigned to the minors so that he could get in a couple starts. Thanks to Gibson's decision to play in the AHL, he shouldn't be rusty going into this contest.
