Draft prospect Darnell Nurse endured Donovan McNabb's (his uncle) grueling workouts as a teenager.

The 6-foot-4, 185-pound Nurse is considered the second-best defenseman by the NHL Central Scouting Service. The 18-year-old has trained with the ex-NFL quarterback in the offseason in workouts that consisted of 40-yard sprints up a hill in 100-degree Arizona heat. "It was a test," Nurse said. "I couldn't quit or let [the NFL players] show me up." McNabb said scouts want to know what your work ethic is like. "He wants to be great," McNabb said. "He understands that for that to happen, he has to put in the time."

Antti Raanta (upper body) will miss Friday and Saturday's contests.

Raanta sustained the injury during Wednesday's contest. It's believed that Raanta's upper-body injury is concussion-like symptoms and if that's the case then there's no way of knowing how long he'll be sidelined for. The Coyotes have already summoned Marek Langhamer and he'll probably end up splitting the two starts with Scott Wedgewood.
Nov 24 - 6:28 AM

Ryan Miller (lower body) said he's ready to return to the Ducks' lineup.

Miller still needs to be activated off the injured reserve list, but with Anaheim playing on Friday and Saturday, it wouldn't be surprising if he gets into one of those contests. He's 2-0-2 with a 1.88 GAA and .943 save percentage in four contests this season.
Nov 24 - 6:25 AM

The Los Angeles Kings have acquired Torrey Mitchell from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for a conditional 2018 fifth-round pick.

If Los Angeles makes the playoffs then the Canadiens receive their own fourth-round selection instead, which the Kings current control thanks to the Dwight King trade. Mitchell has no points in 11 games this season. He was frequently scratched by the Canadiens and averaged just 9:18 minutes when he did play, so it makes sense that Montreal would be interested in moving him. He might get a more regular role with the Kings, but shouldn't be expected to have any fantasy value in standard leagues.

Evgeni Malkin (upper body) will not be available Friday afternoon.

Malkin also missed Wednesday's game. Consider him day-to-day beyond Friday.
Nov 23 - 1:14 PM

The Calgary Flames have placed Eddie Lack on waivers.

Lack has posted some ugly numbers in four games this season. He has a 1-2-0 record with a 5.29 goals-against-average and a .813 save percentage this season.
Nov 23 - 12:34 PM

William Karlsson posted a goal, an assist, a plus-2 rating and five shots on goal in Wednesday's 4-2 victory in Anaheim.

Karlsson has posted at least one goal in each of his past three outings, and he has managed 10 goals with 18 points with a respectable plus-6 rating over the past 16 games. Karlsson has already set a career high with his 10 goals, and he is just seven points short of his previous career best of 25 points set last season in Columbus.
Nov 23 - 2:17 AM

Jonathan Bernier stopped all 28 shots he faced in Wednesday's 3-0 shutout against the Dallas Stars.

Bernier posted his second shutout against the Stars, and the 15th of his career, as the Avalanche needed him with Semyon Varlamov under the weather. In fact, Varlamov was so sick that he wasn't available off the bench, forcing the team to summon Andrew Hammond from Belleville of the AHL to serve as the backup.
Nov 23 - 12:48 AM

Evgeny Kuznetsov scored a goal and two assists in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Ottawa Senators.

Kuznetsov registered the primary assists on both of teammate Jakub Vrana's goals. He added one of his own on the power play to make it 3-0 for Washington in the middle frame. Kuznetsov finished the game with a plus-1 rating and four shots on goal in 15:12 of ice time. The Caps forward has six goals and 26 points in 23 games this season. Kuznetsov has seven points in his last five games.
Nov 23 - 12:31 AM

Anton Khudobin stopped 40 of 42 shots in Wednesday's 3-2 shootout win over the New Jersey Devils.

The Bruins built up a 2-0 lead in the first period, but they let it slip away. Fortunately for them, they managed to win in the 11th round of the shootout. Khudobin has now started and won three consecutive games for Boston, while Tuukka Rask sits on the bench. Khudobin has a 6-0-2 record with a 2.13 goals-against-average and a .938 save percentage this season. He should keep starting as long as he keeps winning.
Nov 23 - 12:23 AM

Jake Guentzel scored both of Pittsburgh's goals during their 5-2 loss to Vancouver on Wednesday night.

Both of Guentzel's goals were scored while the Penguins were on the power play. His first tally tied the game at one, while his second of the night made cut his team's deficit to 4-2 in the third period. Guentzel finished the night with a minus-2 rating, six shots on goal and six hits in 16:06 of ice time. The Penguins forward is up to eight goals and 13 points in 23 games this season.
Nov 22 - 11:55 PM

Brock Boeser scored two goals in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Canucks rookie simply can't be stopped right now, as he's put together back-to-back two-goal performances (he also had two goals in last night's win over the Flyers). He's now found the back of the net in four consecutive games. Boeser has 11 goals and 21 points in 19 games this season. He's on pace to score 46 goals in his first full NHL season. He needs to be owned in all fantasy formats.
