If you are concerned that rugged Canadiens' defenseman Alexei Emelin will not play a physical brand of hockey upon his return from reconstructive knee surgery, don't be.

The Hab rearguard, who will be out of action until November, tore his ACL and MCL after colliding with the Bruins' Milan Lucic in an April 6th game. Emelin has vowed to play the same style of hockey that got him to the NHL when he returns to action. "I will continue playing the same style, said Emelin." It was just bad luck. You can be walking down the street, trip, or run into another person by accident, and suffer a similar injury. It was a hockey play with a bad result." Emelin is a much better real defenseman than fantasy one.

Pekka Rinne turned aside all 28 shots he faced in Thursday's 1-0 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

This was Rinne's first shutout of the 2017-18 season. The Preds goalie has been red-hot of late, as he's given up just four goals in his last four outings (he's 3-0-1 during that stretch). Rinne now owns a 4-1-1 record with a 2.01 goals-against-average and a .932 save percentage this season. He's a strong number one goalie in most fantasy leagues, but he has gone through prolonged rough patches over the last two years. There's a chance that happens again at some point.

Carter Hutton will get the start in Thursday's game against the Colorado Avalanche.

Jake Allen got the start against Chicago last night, which is why Hutton is starting tonight. Hutton has a 1-0-0 record with a 1.00 goals-against-average and a .970 save percentage this season.

Jordan Weal won't suit up in Thursday's game against Nashville.

Weal is out of the lineup for an unspecified reason. He has one goal and four points in six games this season. We'll provide an update on his status as soon as the Flyers make one available.
Oct 19 - 7:02 PM

Patrice Bergeron (lower body) will make his regular season debut on Thursday night.

He'll suit up against the Canucks. Bergeron was skating on a line with Brad Marchand and Anders Bjork during the pre-game warmup. He had 21 goals and 53 points in 79 contests. He should be owned in most standard fantasy leagues.

Jeff Carter (ankle) will reportedly miss at least six-to-eight weeks.

Los Angeles announced that Carter is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery on Thursday. He suffered a skate cut during Wednesday's game. The cut reportedly damaged a tendon in his ankle, but it's not his Achilles' tendon.

Derek Forbort has agreed to a two-year, $5.05 million contract extension.

Forbort is in the final season of a two-year, $1.3 million deal. If he didn't re-sign then he could have become a restricted free agent this summer. He has two assists in six games this season.

Tuukka Rask has been diagnosed with a concussion.

Rask sustained the injury when Anders Bjork crashed into him during Wednesday's practice. It's an unfortunate break for the Bruins to say the very least. It's not clear how long Rask will be sidelined for, which is par for the course when we're talking about a concussion. For now, Anton Khudobin will serve as the Bruins' starting goaltender while Zane McIntyre is the team's backup.

Brooks Laich has signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Los Angeles Kings.

Laich took part in Los Angeles' training camp, but didn't secure a contract heading into the regular season. He continued to skate with the team in the hopes of landing a deal and that's happened now that the Kings have lost Jeff Carter indefinitely to a leg injury. Laich can earn $650,000 annually at the NHL level or $50,000 in the minors.

Robin Lehner didn't participate in Thursday's practice due to an illness.

That puts Lehner's availability for Friday's game in question. He has a 3.14 GAA and .900 save percentage in five contests this season.
Oct 19 - 5:12 PM

Wayne Simmonds (groin) said on Thursday he's okay to play.

It remains to be seen if Simmonds will play on Thursday, especially after the Flyers summoned Matt Read from the minors. Perhaps Read was just brought in for insurance purposes though and will ultimately serve as a healthy scratch. Simmonds couldn't complete Tuesday's contest due to the ailment.

Jeff Carter's leg was cut by a skate during Wednesday's game and he's had surgery as a result.

Carter is out indefinitely, but beyond that we don't have a timetable for him. There was an earlier report that suggested that the skate cut caused tendon damage. He has three assists in six games this season. We wish him the best in his recovery.
