Matt Frattin joined Ben Scrivens and a second-round pick (2014 or 2015) in a trade package to Los Angeles in exchange for Jonathan Bernier.

At first blush, Frattin looks like he has a big mountain to climb to earn time with the Kings. Still, with a handful of notable free agents at forward, Frattin's chances might not be so bad (though he might want to try his luck as a left-winger instead). The 25-year-old scored 13 points in 25 regular season contests before collecting two assists in six playoff games with Toronto in 2013.

Jimmy Howard found his mojo on Friday night, kicking aside all 25 Bruins shots to lift Detroit to a 1-0 victory in Game 1.

Howard was fantastic, making clutch saves down the stretch to keep the game tied, while Pavel Datsyuk's late goal gave the Red Wings an unlikely victory. The Red Wings goaltender will need to be better than he was during the regular season in order for Detroit to make a run. Howard was 21-19-11 this season with a .910 save percentage and 2.66 goals against average during the year. Friday night was a good start.

Pavel Datsyuk's marvellous third period goal was all the Red Wings needed on Friday night, as they held on to beat the heavily favoured Bruins in Game 1 by a score of 1-0.

Datsyuk took a pass from Johan Franzen in the neutral zone, stickhandled his way through multiple Bruins just over the blueline and fired home a deadly wrister past Tukka Rask with just 3:01 to go in the game. The goal gave the Red Wings home ice advantage and a 1-0 series lead against Boston with Game 2 coming on Sunday.
Apr 18 - 10:27 PM

Carey Price's shutout bid was spoiled with under two minutes remaining in Game 2, but the star goaltender still got the all important victory in Friday night's battle with the Lightning.

Price made 26 saves on 27 shots and was much better than he was during Wednesday night's Game 1, where he allowed four goals and made 21 saves in the wild overtime victory. A strong team performance suffocated the Bolts' offense, and put the series momentum squarely in the hands of the Canadiens. Price improves his mediocre career playoff record to 11 wins and 17 losses.
Apr 18 - 10:02 PM

Rene Bourque drove the Canadiens past the Lightning in Game 2 on Friday night, scoring two goals in the Habs’ 4-1 victory in Tampa Bay.

Bourque’s first goal is making the rounds on the highlight reels, as the veteran split the Bolts’ defense and poked the puck past a sprawling Anders Lindback. That goal stood as the game-winner, while Bourque’s second marker increased the Habs’ lead to 3-0 and essentially putting the game out of reach in the third period for the hometown Lightning.

Frederik Andersen is projected to play between the pipes again on Friday.

Andersen stopped 32 of 35 shots in Anaheim's 4-3 victory over Dallas in their playoff opener on Wednesday. Obviously, the fact that they're sticking with Andersen doesn't bode well for Jonas Hiller, who might not be offered a contract extension before his current deal runs out this summer.

T.J. Oshie is skating Friday morning with a few players who did not play Thursday night against Chicago.

He has been skating on his own this week as he awaits clearance to participate in contact practices. At least Oshie seems to be getting closer to a return. Consider him day-to-day for now.
Apr 18 - 1:37 PM

Steve Mason (upper body) took part in Friday's practice.

"It's my first time on the ice in a couple days, and it's a good step," Mason said."I felt good." He faced shots during the morning skate and might be ready to return on Sunday. He missed the Flyers' final regular season game and playoff opener.
Apr 18 - 1:19 PM

Alexander Steen's goal 26 seconds into the third overtime period gave the Blues a 4-3 win over Chicago in Game 1 of their first round playoff series Thursday night.

Steen knocked a nifty little pass from Steve Ott into the back of the net soon after the third extra frame began and sent the Blues fans home happy. Adam Cracknell, Vladimir Tarasenko and Jaden Schwartz also scored for St. Louis in the thrilling victory. If the rest of the series is as exciting as this game, it could lead to widespread heart attacks for fans of both teams.
Apr 18 - 12:41 AM

Ondrej Palat (upper body) will be a game-time decision for Friday's contest against Montreal.

He left Game 1 because an undisclosed injury, which is believed to be to his upper-body region. The outstanding rookie logged 14:05 of ice time before exiting early in the third period.
Apr 17 - 2:39 PM

Steve Mason (upper body) is feeling better, according to Flyers coach Craig Berube.

He is projected to join the team in New York on Friday, which is a good sign. However, he won't be in the lineup Thursday for Game 1 against the Rangers and his status for Game 2 is still unclear.
Apr 17 - 2:10 PM

Antti Niemi will start in Game 1 against Los Angeles.

The Sharks made some waves when they didn't immediately name their starter for Thursday's playoff opener, but it shouldn't come as a surprise that Niemi will get the nod.
