The Canucks now must rebuild their relationship with, and the confidence of, Roberto Luongo.

It was a shocking turn of events that saw the Canucks trade starter Cory Schneider to the Devils Sunday for the ninth overall pick in the entry draft leaving Luongo once again as the team's starter. Vancouver GM Mike Gillis now has to play psychologist to convince Luongo that he is still wanted and highly regarded after sitting on the bench for much of last season and all of the playoffs. "I think Roberto is a professional," Gillis said. "I think he is an outstanding person. He's an outstanding goaltender. I anticipate him being one of the front-runners for the Sochi Olympics playing goal for Canada. I don't expect (the relationship between the Canucks and Luongo) to be a problem, but I haven't spoken to him yet. "I need to have a conversation with him and explain what happened. We've already talked to his agent, Gilles Lupien. I'm not anticipating there being issues, and if there are we'll deal with them." This should be interesting.

Jaromir Jagr scored a goal and an assist in Florida's 4-3 win over Tampa Bay.

The 43-year-old was named the game's first star for his effort. Jagr opened the scoring at the 10:24 mark of the first period. He also picked up the primary assist on Aleksander Barkov's second period to give Florida a 2-1 lead. Jagr finished the game with a plus-2 rating and three shots on goal in 17:07 of action. The goal was the 717th of Jagr's career, which tied him for fifth on the NHL's all time list with Phil Esposito.

The Dallas Stars have traded Erik Cole and a conditional third round pick to the Detroit Red Wings for prospects Mattias Backman, Mattas Janmark and a 2nd round pick in 2015.

The 36-year-old is in the final year of his contract. He has 18 goals and 33 points in 57 games with the Stars this season. He is a big body who will add some good depth on the wing for Detroit. Cole has 14 points in 46 career playoff games. He won the Stanley Cup with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2005-06.
Mar 1 - 7:36 PM

Andrew Ladd scored two goals in Sunday's 5-2 win over Los Angeles.

Ladd had a very impressive stat line in this game. He had the two goals, a plus-2 rating, two penalty minutes, seven shots and two hits in 18:55 of ice time. Both of Ladd's goals were scored in the second period. The 29-year-old has 22 goals and 52 points in 64 games this season. Drew Stafford, Tyler Myers and Blake Wheeler also scored for the Jets.

The New York Rangers have acquired Keith Yandle, Chris Summers and a 4th round pick from the Arizona Coyotes for prospect Anthony Duclair, John Moore, a first round pick in 2016 and a 2nd round pick in 2015.

This is a blockbuster deal and a huge acquisition for the Rangers. Yandle, 28, is a highly-regarded offensive defenseman who has spent his entire career with the Coyotes to this point. He has four goals, 41 points and a minus-32 rating on a bad Arizona team. He is on pace to hit the 50-point mark for the third time in his career. The Coyotes are believed to be retaining 50 percent of Yandle's salary. He has one year remaining on his contract after this season.

Devan Dubnyk was named the NHL's first star for the month of February.

The 28-year-old registered a 1.64 goals-against-average, a .939 save percentage and three shutouts throughout the month.
Mar 1 - 3:06 PM

Anders Lee has been named the NHL's rookie of the month for February.

Lee scored seven goals and 15 points in 15 games throughout the month. The 24-year-old was the Islanders' sixth round pick in 2009. Lee has 20 goals and 33 points in 58 games this season.

The Calgary Flames have placed Mark Giordano (upper body) on injured reserve.

This is a huge blow to Calgary's playoff chances as Giordano is having his best season as a pro. The 31-year-old has been a legitimate Norris trophy candidate this season. He has 11 goals, 48 points and a plus-13 rating while averaging over 25 minutes for the Flames.
Mar 1 - 2:03 PM

The Washington Capitals have acquired Curtis Glencross from the Calgary Flames in exchange for a second and third round pick in 2015.

Glencross had to waive his no-trade clause to go to Washington. The 32-year-old has nine goals and 28 points in 53 games for Calgary this season. His 0.53 point-per-game average this year is his lowest since the 2009-10 season (0.49). The Capitals have more offensive talent than Calgary so it wouldn't be shocking if Glencross produces a little more frequently down the stretch.

Antoine Vermette will not practice with the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.

The Blackhawks acquired Vermette from the Coyotes late Saturday night so he probably just needs some time to get everything settled in his new city. With Patrick Kane out for an extended period of time, Vermette should get ample opportunity to produce with his new team.
Mar 1 - 12:31 PM

Connor McDavid has 15 points including seven goals in his last four games and is on a 24 game scoring streak.

The consensus number one pick for the June draft has 102 points in only 39 games this season and is now fourth in the OHL in scoring despite playing at least 16 games less than anyone ahead of him. Mitch Marner of the London Knights leads the way with 118 points but McDavid is far and away the class of the league.

Brandon Dubinsky is out indefinitely with a concussion.

Dubinsky suffered the injury on Thursday but practiced some on Friday before leaving the ice. "The doctors examined him in the first period," coach Todd Richards said. "There was some neck and shoulder soreness. After the evaluation, just as a precaution, we kept him out of the game. He came in the next morning and felt great. He went out on the ice and started developing symptoms. We got him off right away, and he was re-examined by our doctors. It was ruled a concussion." With only six weeks left in the season, it could be time to cut bait with Dubinsky in one-year pools.
