The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed Mark Fraser to a one-year/$1.275 million contract.

Fraser and the Maple Leafs had an arbitration hearing scheduled for Tuesday. The Maple Leafs had offered him $855,000 while Fraser had countered with $2 million. Fraser is projected to serve on Toronto's third pairing at best. While he certainly contributes defensively, he doesn't put up nearly enough points to make him worth looking at in standard leagues.

Mika Zibanejad snapped his 16-game goal drought in dramatic fashion during Saturday's 4-3 overtime win over the Devils.

After getting bailed out twice by Antti Raanta to begin his shift, Zibanejad was able to freeze and then score through the five-hole on Cory Schneider for the game winner in the extra frame. Tack on his assist earlier in the game, and he has eight goals and 24 points in 36 games.

Juuse Saros stopped 24 of 26 shots Saturday and netted the 5-2 win over the Caps.

Pekka Rinne needed the night off heading into Edmonton and Saros really needed this win. His last five games resulted in a 1-2-2 record with a save percentage of only .887 and an average 3.2 goals per game. Saturday night, he improved to a .923 save percentage with only two goals against.

Joonas Korpisalo stopped all 24 shots aimed at him to earn his first career shutout in a 7-0 victory over the Islanders Saturday night.

Korpisalo was playing in his seventh game of the season with the Jackets. In his previous six, he earned a record of 4-1-0. His other effort was 13 minutes of ice time in a 4-2 loss to these same Islanders, so this gave him more than a measure of revenge even though he was not the decision-maker in that game.

The Kings have activated Jonathan Quick from injured reserve.

He's seen just one game of action this season, NHL or otherwise. Normally it'd be surprising to see him go straight into action, but both Dean Lombardi and Darryl Sutter to expect as much. We'll keep you posted on if he'll make his debut tonight against the Ducks.
Feb 25 - 3:36 PM

Commissioner Gary Bettman has decided to uphold Antoine Vermette's 10-game suspension.

After hearing the appeal of Vermette, the Ducks and the Players' Association, Bettman wasn't swayed to move from a clearly stated rule that if you abuse the refs physically in any way, you're banned for at least 10 games. Vermette is eligible to return March. 12th

Per GM Dean Lombardi, Jonathan Quick's long-awaited activation off I/R may come as soon as Saturday.

Which would be in time for today's match with the Ducks. Lombardi was cagey, to say the least, about the proverbial odds of his top netminder's return. But we've known that this was around the time he was potentially capable of coming back. We'll know more soon enough, so stay tuned!

Matt Murray will get the Stadium Series start against the Flyers on Saturday.

As if one expected otherwise. Murray has a 22-7-3 record with a 2.27 GAA and a .926 save percentage this season. He's only played the Flyers once in his career, winning once while stopping 39 of 41 shots.

Patrick Eaves hopes to play for Anaheim on Saturday after the Ducks acquired him Friday afternoon.

Anaheim sent Dallas a conditional second rounder that can be upgrades to a first if the Ducks make it to the Conference Final and Eaves plays in at least half of the games. "I was a little disoriented because I was taking a pregame nap for the game tonight," Eaves said, referring to when he found out about the trade. "It got me out of bed really quick, that’s for sure. I was excited. Your world gets turned upside down real quick. I want to get out there as soon as possible, and fortunately we have an afternoon game tomorrow, so I’m getting ready for that." Eaves has 21 goals and 37 points in 59 contests this season, which already represents career-highs for him in goals and points.

Jamie Benn picked up a goal and an assist in Friday's 5-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes.

Benn did all of his damage in the third period, as his goal at the 3:03 mark of the frame gave Dallas a 3-2 lead. He also helped set up Cody Eakin's goal almost 13 minutes later. The Stars captain has 21 points in his last 16 contests and he's accumulated six multi-point games during that stretch. Benn is up to 21 goals and 35 assists in 57 games this season.
Feb 24 - 11:26 PM

Troy Brouwer scored a goal and an assist in Friday's 4-2 win over the Florida Panthers.

Brouwer helped set up Sam Bennett's game-tying goal (1-1) at the 8:57 mark of the first period. He then added the final goal of the game at the 6:19 mark of the second frame. The offensive output put an end to Brouwer's personal six-game pointless streak. He's up to 10 goals and 11 assists in 54 games this season.
Feb 24 - 10:45 PM

Eddie Lack turned aside all 34 shots he faced in Friday's 3-0 win over the Ottawa Senators.

This was Lack's second start since coming back to the lineup from a concussion. Tonight's victory was his first since Oct. 20. He has a 2-3-1 record with a 3.26 goals-against-average and a .884 save percentage. With the Hurricanes out of the playoff race, they could opt to give him quite a few starts down the stretch.
