Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who had corrective season-ending surgery on a shoulder last season, initially expressed confidence that he would be "good to go" for the start of the next season but it's being reported now that this may not be the case.

Edmonton Oilers GM Craig MacTavish won't make any promises. "All things are very optimistic now … but the timeline before was that he’d be ready Nov. 1, in a very pessimistic timeline, and optimistically he’d be ready to start the year," MacTavish said. "We’re going to stay with that and let his progression dictate when he’s ready. We won’t be hurrying him, that’s for sure." MacTavish conceded that being without Nugent-Hopkins would create a big hole in their lineup, but it would also be an opportunity for some of the Oilers’ young forwards.

Antti Raanta will start for the Blackhawks against the Edmonton Oilers.

Raanta has a 2.03 GAA and .933 save percentage in three starts this season. He's played against the Oilers once before and stopped 18 of 20 shots in that contest.

The Los Angeles Kings will receive cap relief as Slava Voynov remains suspended indefinitely.

Voynov has been charged with one felony count of corporal injury to a spouse with great bodily injury. He was suspended after the allegations initially surfaced, but until now his $4,166,667 cap hit was still counting against the Kings. That put Los Angeles in a situation were replacing him was very difficult and it led to them playing shorthanded on multiple occasions.

The Buffalo Sabres and New York Rangers game that was supposed to be played tonight has been moved to Feb. 20.

Buffalo has endured a major snowstorm in recent days, which is the reason why the contest has been postponed. Buffalo was supposed to play against the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 20, but that contest has been moved to Dec. 15 instead.
Nov 21 - 4:03 PM

The San Jose Sharks have traded Jason Demers and a 2016 third-round pick to the Dallas Stars in exchange for Brendan Dillon.

Demers has three assists in 20 games this season, which is a huge step down from his 34-point 2013-14 campaign. This is a chance for Demers to get a fresh start, so he'll be worth keeping an eye on over the Stars' next few games.
Nov 21 - 3:30 PM

Daniel Alfredsson has reportedly decided not to play in 2014-15.

Alfredsson had an interest in continuing his career, but he's been dealing with an injured disc. If this is the end of his playing days, then Alfredsson will retire with 444 goals and 1,157 points in 1,246 games. He spent the vast majority of his career with the Ottawa Senators, but left in the summer of 2013 to sign a one-year deal with Detroit.

Mikko Koivu is dealing with an illness.

Koivu missed Friday's practice as a result, but he's still a possibility for Saturday's contest. He has gotten off to a slow start this season with two goals and five points in 18 games.
Nov 21 - 2:05 PM

Niklas Svedberg will be the Boston Bruins' starter on Friday.

Svedberg has a 2.41 GAA and .917 save percentage in seven contests in 2014-15. He'll try to bounce back after allowing five goals on 34 shots in his last start on Nov. 13.
Nov 21 - 12:44 PM

Chad Johnson will get the nod against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday.

Johnson has a 3.27 GAA and .878 save percentage in seven games. Given how strong the Penguins' offense has been this season, we're not filled with confidence in Johnson going into this contest.
Nov 21 - 12:42 PM

Thomas Greiss is projected to start on Saturday.

Marc-Andre Fleury will play on Friday and the plan right now is for the goaltenders to split those two games. Greiss has a 1.96 GAA and .938 save percentage in three contests this season.
Nov 21 - 12:39 PM

David Booth (foot) has been sent to the minors on a conditioning stint.

Booth hasn't played yet this season because of the injury. Once he shakes off the rust, he'll begin the task of trying to re-establish himself after struggling for years in Vancouver. He might end up having some worth to the Maple Leafs, but we can't recommend owning him in standard fantasy leagues.
Nov 21 - 12:23 PM

Patrick Sharp (lower body) is on the long-term injured reserve list.

A player put on the LTIR has to miss at least 10 games and 24 days. Sharp hasn't played since Nov. 4 and he's already been sidelined for six contests, so the decision to put him on the long-term list shouldn't be regarded as a grim indicator. Sharp was originally projected to miss three-to-four weeks, so based on that timetable, he wasn't expected to return for at least another week anyways.
