Zach Boychuk has inked a one-year, two-way contract with Carolina.

He will make $550,000 at the NHL level and earn $105,000 at the AHL level. Boychuk has spent most of his pro career in the minors and he bounced between three teams through waivers last season before ending up back with the Hurricanes. He is hoping to get another shot at NHL action, but we don't expect him to have any fantasy value this year.

Elias Pettersson is leading the Swedish Hockey League in scoring with 35 points in 26 games.

The Canucks are thrilled as their first-round pick and fifth overall in the 2017 Draft has not only made a splash this season, he may be one of the top prospects not playing in the NHL at this time. He will go to the World Juniors and has a realistic shot playing for Sweden at the Olympics. Canuck fans ought to be elated as Pettersson could be their best prospect drafted this century. That says a lot since Brock Boeser has been so good for Vancouver. He should be with the Canucks either next season or the year after that.

The Anaheim Ducks have activated Hampus Lindholm (upper body) from the injured reserve list.

This one does not make a lot of sense as Lindholm is not necessarily ready to return to action after missing the last three games. The Ducks play on Monday and is seems that he is still injured. Stay tuned as Lindholm has three goals and eight points in 19 games this season.
Dec 11 - 6:34 AM

Eric Staal had two goals and an assist in a 4-3 overtime win over the San Jose Sharks.

With Martin Jones sprawled in his crease, Ryan Suter found Eric Staal all alone in front of the open net to make the score 2-0 midway through the first period. Staal's second goal came after he picked up the loose puck off the boards before tucking home his 12th of the year. With 26 points in 29 games, the 33-year-old forward is on pace for 74 points. That mark would account for the highest he has reached since he had 76 during the 2010-11 season with the Hurricanes.
Dec 10 - 11:55 PM

Brent Burns scored a pair of goals in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Minnesota Wild.

Both of his goals came on the power play, his first with a two-man advantage and the other with just the extra man. He is now up to four goals and 18 points in 27 games this season, way off his career high of 0.92 points-per-game set last season. However, the 32-year-old blueliner has 11 points in his last 10 games and looks well on his way to returning to the top of the charts for points amongst rearguards.
Dec 10 - 11:50 PM

Curtis McElhinney stopped all 41 shots he faced on Sunday night as the Leafs squeezed by the Oilers 1-0.

McElhinney made 11 power-play stops and played a remarkable game to steal the Leafs two points in the standings. The veteran netminder improves to 3-2-0 this season with a 2.44 goals-against average and .925 save percentage
Dec 10 - 10:15 PM

Auston Matthews will sit out the Maple Leafs’ tilt with the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.

The Maple Leafs star is dealing with an upper-body injury from Saturday night's win over Pittsburgh. With 13 goals and 13 assists in 26 games, the Leafs will surely miss the 20-year-old when they take on Connor McDavid and the Oilers.
Dec 10 - 6:35 PM

Marc-Andre Fleury (concussion) has been activated off the injured reserve list.

That sets the stage for Fleury to return on Tuesday, although the bigger game will be on Thursday against his old team, the Pittsburgh Penguins. Fleury was off to a great start before the concussion with a 3-1-0 record, 2.48 GAA, and .925 save percentage in four contests. Vegas has done remarkably well over his absence and has enjoyed some great goaltending performances along the way, but Fleury should resume his role as the clear starter now that he's healthy.

Look for Alex Stalock to play between the pipes Sunday night.

This will be Stalock's first chance to bounce back since he allowed seven goals against Winnipeg on Nov. 27. It's also a contest against his former team, the San Jose Sharks.
Dec 10 - 4:19 PM

Kari Lehtonen will get the nod for the Stars on Monday.

Lehtonen stopped 24 of 26 shots on Thursday, but Dallas lost that contest to St. Louis 3-0. He has a 3-4-1 record, 2.71 GAA, and .903 save percentage in 10 contests this season.
Dec 10 - 1:55 PM

Auston Matthews (upper body) is questionable for Sunday's game.

Matthews was struck in the head towards the end of Saturday's game, which is concerning. However, Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock seemed to paint Matthews' issue as minor. "He’s one of those guys that’s bumped and bruised here today," Babcock said. "So we’ll just go through it. We’ve had a couple guys that are – you know, it’s the season, you’re playing hockey. You see who’s available at game time." We probably won't know more about Matthews' availability until the pregame warmups.
Dec 10 - 1:16 PM

Alex Pietrangelo was injured while blocking a shot on Saturday.

Pietrangelo will miss Sunday's game and then attempt to skate on Monday. He's a big part of the Blues' defense, so this injury is troubling on its own. However, it's particularly bad news for St. Louis after it was already revealed that Jaden Schwartz suffered a major ankle injury on Saturday that will sidelined him for a minimum of six weeks.
