New York Rangers defenseman Marc Staal claims that he feels the best he's felt "in years."

"My brain kinda re-wired itself," Staal told New York Newsday's Steve Zipay. Staal said that the sensitivity to light is almost gone and insisted that he's not limited in any way. It remains to be seen if he can truly bounce back from that injury or if he'll be another "What if?" defenseman like Bryan Berard.

Michael Cammalleri (jaw/neck) is still not feeling 'right' according to GM Lou Lamriello.

Cammalleri took an elbow to the jaw eight days ago and while it was not fractured, he still cannot play. "He just doesn’t feel right," Lamoriello said. "Whether it’s his head, his neck, his jaw, we’re just making sure he feels 100 percent." You have to wonder if Cammalleri may have suffered a concussion, but we will wait and see what the Devils doctors say, if they say anything at all. He was off to a good start with New Jersey as the off-season acquisition had five goals and seven points in eight games.

The Los Angeles Kings are hopeful that Anze Kopitar (upper body) can return to the lineup on Sunday.

Kopitar has missed the last three games with the injury. Kopitar is off to a slow start this season with only two goals and an assist in eight games as well as a minus-one rating.

Sami Vatanen played alongside Cam Fowler on Friday.

The Ducks were forced to juggle their blueliners with the injury to Mark Fistric and Vatanen got a boost as Josh Manson, the son of ex-NHLer Dave, made his NHL debut with Clayton Stoner as his defensive partner. Vatanen has seen his playing time in five-on-five situations go up over the last two games as he also continues to see plenty of time killing penalties and on the first power play. Vatanen has three goals and seven points in 12 games with all his points coming on the power play.
Nov 1 - 4:50 AM

Jimmy Howard stopped 28 of Los Angeles’ 30 shots in Detroit’s 5-2 win on Friday.

Howard has now surrendered two goals or less in six of his eight starts this season. The 30-year-old has been stellar for Detroit and gives them a chance to win every night. After a very average 2013-14 season, it’s nice to see Howard bounce back in a big way. He is now 5-1-2 with a 1.97 goals-against-average and a .929 save percentage this season.
Oct 31 - 10:40 PM

Pavel Datsyuk scored two goals and an assist in Detroit’s 5-2 win over Los Angeles on Friday night.

The 36-year-old scored Detroit’s second goal to make it 2-0, and added the empty netter late in the third. Datsyuk has registered at least one point in each of the five games he’s played since returning from a shoulder injury. He now has four goals and eight points in those five games.
Oct 31 - 10:24 PM

Gustav Nyquist scored two goals and one assist in Detroit’s 5-2 win over Los Angeles on Friday night.

Nyquist continues to roll. He now has seven goals and two assists this season. Both goals came on the power play. The 25-year-old is currently on pace to beat last season’s 28 goal total. Nyquist has emerged as the next offensive star in Detroit. He will continue to get prime minutes both 5-on-5 and on the mad-advantage. Pavel Datsyuk (twice) and Tomas Tatar scored the other goals for Detroit.

Phil Kessel scored a goal and two assists in Toronto’s 4-1 win over Columbus on Friday.

Kessel’s goal opened the scoring in the game, and he added two assists in the third period. The 27-year-old now has 13 points in his last eight games, including eight points in his last four games. With the win, Toronto (5-4-1) is over the .500 mark for the first time this season.

Joffrey Lupul suffered a broken hand during Toronto's practice on Friday.

In a freak accident, Lupul stepped on a stick and fell on his hand. Lupul went for X-rays this morning where he was diagnosed with a broken hand. Lupul is out indefinitely, but Maple Leafs’ GM Dave Nonis admitted that the forward will be out for several weeks.
Oct 31 - 8:15 PM

David Backes (concussion) took part in Friday's practice.

Backes also passed the baseline test, so he might even be available for Tuesday's game. This is surprising news given that he only sustained the injury on Tuesday.
Oct 31 - 6:44 PM

The NHL has suspended Alex Burrows for three games for his high, late hit on Montreal's Alexei Emelin.

Burrows will be eligible to return on Thursday. The NHL ruled that the "hit is so late that it can not be made at all." However, the league also specified that it would have been an illegal check to the head even if the hit was made in a timely manner. Burrows struggled mightily last season, but he was off to a good start in 2014-15 with two goals and six points in 10 contests.
Oct 31 - 6:14 PM

Ryan Callahan (lower body) has declared himself ready to return to the Lightning's lineup.

"I'm good to go," Callahan said on Friday. "That's the goal, as long as nothing shows up tomorrow, something that's bugging me from today's skate. But I felt really good today so don't see why not." Tampa Bay has already sent Cedric Paquette to the minors, so the stage is set for Callahan to rejoin the Lightning. He has three goals and five points in six games in 2014-15.
