After selecting Nathan MacKinnon, a natural center, in June with the draft's No. 1 pick, new Colorado bossman Patrick Roy said he intends to begin training camp with the youngster at center and move fourth-year forward Ryan O'Reilly from center to left wing.
However, while Roy wants MacKinnon to make the opening-night roster at the position where he's most comfortable, the right-shooting MacKinnon ultimately could be moved to right wing, the Avs' thinnest position. The Avs are deep at center with Matt Duchene, Paul Stastny, O'Reilly, John Mitchell and MacKinnon, but they're a little light at natural right wings, with just P.A. Parenteau and Steve Downie.
