The Phoenix Coyotes have begun negotiating a possible contract extension with Radim Vrbata.

Vrbata is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. He's set to earn $3 million a season, but he's a safe bet for a raise after Coyotes GM Don Maloney openly admitted that Vrbata's been worth more than he's earning. He had 62 points in 2011-12 followed by 12 goals and 16 assists in 34 games last season.

The Boston Bruins are reportedly preparing an offer sheet for Jacob Trouba.

It's no secret that the Bruins need to get better and younger on defense and this would be an expensive way of doing that. According to Joe Haggerty, the deal would be worth a minimum of $47 million dollars. If the Jets refuse to match that, it would net them four consecutive first round picks from the Bruins. Trouba had six goals and 21 points in 81 games last season. The 22-year-old averaged 22:03 of ice time in 2015-16.

Milan Lucic will reportedly sign with the Edmonton Oilers on July 1, according to sources.

One source said it was 100 percent and another said it was 95 percent that Lucic ends up in Edmonton. Lucic must have been very impressed with his recent visit with the Oilers. He has attracted plenty of interest leading up to the free agency on Friday. If he ends up agreeing to terms with Edmonton then a trade for a defenseman may not be far around the corner.

Benning has apologized and accepted the consequences of his comments, but explained that he was just trying to be honest with fans and the media about his interest in Steven Stamkos and P.K. Subban.

Brad Stuart has been placed on waivers and the Avalanche intend to buy him out.

The Avalanche will save $1.2 million in cash, according to generalfanager.com, but his buyout won't provide salary cap relief because he is 36 years of age. That will leave the team with a $3.6 million charge. Colorado wants to get younger on the back end, while giving more opportunities to Nikita Zadorov, Chris Bigras, Eric Gelinas and prospect Duncan Siemens.

"Andrew will add more leadership to our team.
