Brooks Laich exited Thursday's practice with a strained left hip flexor.

He lasted only about 10 minutes before leaving, but said the injury wasn't related to the groin problem that sidelined him for the majority of the 2013 campaign. Laich required surgery for that issue. "It was actually my first day back in D.C. Something I noticed is that the ice here is a lot softer than the ice I skated on back home, and when I skated here I just tweaked it a little bit," he said. Laich is listed as day-to-day, but there's no timetable for his return.

Star center Jonathan Toews notched three points in the Blackhawks' 5-2 victory over the visiting Carolina Hurricanes Monday night.

The Chicago captain scored his team's first two goals -- his second on a shorthanded shift 44 seconds into the second period -- to give him 21 on the season. He also produced his 32nd assist of the campaign on Marian Hossa's 18th goal. Brandon Saad (20th) and Marcus Kruger (sixth) also picked up goals for the winners.

Defenseman Keith Yandle turned in an effective debut with the New York Rangers Monday night as he and his new team defeated the visiting Nashville Predators 4-1.

Yandle, traded along with Chris Summers from Arizona Sunday for Anthony Duclair, John Moore, and two draft choices, logged 19:41 of ice time against the Preds and finished with a plus-three. Despite not having a chance to practice with the Rangers, Yandle made good decisions with the puck, got three shots on net and had one steal. He was given time alongside both Kevin Klein and Dan Boyle.

Keith Yandle will make his New York Ranger debut Monday night against the Nashville Predators.

After being traded from Arizona one day earlier, Yandle will suit up for the Blue Shirts Monday night. Yandle is a top fantasy defenseman and will have a chance to boost his value coming to a much improved Rangers roster. He has four goals and 41 points this season and although he has a league worst minus 32 rating, that has mostly been a result of playing for the Coyotes. Enjoy the ride if you own Yandle on your fantasy team.
Mar 2 - 5:12 PM

Mark Giordano will undergo surgery for a torn biceps tendon and he's out for the remainder of the season.

Flames GM Brad Treliving said that Giordano will require four-to-five months of recovery time. The Calgary captain is tied for second in the league in scoring among defensemen with 48 points in 61 games. The Flames will have to continue their hunt for a playoff spot without a key contributor.
Mar 2 - 4:59 PM

Andre Burakovsky has been reassigned to the minors.

He is the odd-man out after the Capitals acquired Curtis Glencross from Calgary. Burakovsky, who has nine goals and 21 points in 48 games this season, will get plenty of playing time with Hershey. It's unclear how long he'll be down in the AHL.
Mar 2 - 3:54 PM

James Wisniewski has been dealt to the Anaheim Ducks.

He was sent to Anaheim along with Detroit's third-round pick for Rene Bourque, William Karlsson and a second-round pick in 2015. Wisniewski has generated eight goals and 29 points in 56 games for the Jackets this year.
Mar 2 - 3:40 PM

Minnesota has landed Chris Stewart from Buffalo for a second-round pick in 2017.

Stewart has 11 goals, 25 points and 63 penalty minutes in 61 games this season. The pending unrestricted free agent was expected to be moved by the Sabres and according to sources Buffalo is picking up half of Stewart's salary.
Mar 2 - 3:10 PM

Cam Atkinson has agreed to a three-year, $10.5 million contract extension.

Atkinson has 13 goals and 25 points in 58 games in 2014-15. That's a substantial jump from his previous average annual salary of $1.15 million, but that's not surprising given that the 25-year-old has established himself as an important part of the Blue Jackets. He would have been eligible to become a restricted free agent this summer.
Mar 2 - 2:57 PM

Alex Stalock will start for San Jose on Monday night against Montreal.

He has allowed 13 goals in his past three appearances and unsurprisingly all those games have been losses. Stalock has a 5-7-1 record this year to go with an .899 and a 2.85 goals-against average.
Mar 2 - 2:42 PM

Mats Zuccarello has reportedly agreed to a four-year, $18 million contract with the New York Rangers.

According to ESPN.com, Zuccarello's new deal includes partial trade protection. He would've been eligible for unrestricted free agency in the summer. Zuccarello has 12 goals and 35 points in 59 games this season.

Michal Neuvirth has indeed been traded.

He is going to the New York Islanders in exchange for Chad Johnson and third-round draft pick. Neuvirth has been solid of late, with a 2.28 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage during nine games in February. He'll serve as Jaroslav Halak's backup.
