Justin Abdelkader enjoyed another strong scrimmage alongside Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg on Sunday.

He had a goal and two assists in the contest. Abdelkader has made it hard for the Wings to experiment with other wingers for Datsyuk and Zetterberg because he's looked so good alongside them. Look for the trio to get some preseason action together.

Jaromir Jagr has agreed to a one-year extension with the Florida Panthers.

The financial terms of the deal weren't revealed, but Jagr came with a $3.5 million base salary in 2015-16 and could earn another $1,905,000 in performance bonuses. Although he's 44 years old, Jagr is coming off of a great season where he scored 27 goals and 66 points in 79 contests. He currently ranks third on the all-time list in points with 1,868, which points him 19 shy of Mark Messier and the number two spot. "Jaromir has had a tremendous influence on our younger players and has been a key offensive contributor on our team," Panthers coach Gerard Gallant said. "We are happy to have him back as we look to build off this year’s playoff appearance."

The Arizona Coyotes have named John Chayka as their new general manager as part of a major restructuring of their front office.

Chayka previously served as the team's assistant general manager. He's just 26 years old and co-founded the hockey analytics firm Stathletes Inc. before joining the Coyotes organization. Meanwhile Alternate Governor Gary Drummond will become the team's new president of hockey operations. Head coach Dave Tippett will continue to serve as the team's bench boss, but he's adding executive vice president of hockey operations to his title. On top of that, Tippett has inked a five-year extension with Arizona.

Penguins goalie Matt Murray starred again Wednesday night, recording 34 saves in regulation and overtime to help Pittsburgh edge the visiting Washington Capitals 3-2 and take a 3-1 lead in the teams' second-round playoff series.

Murray has become the story of the NHL's postseason. Initially pressed into the spotlight after veteran goalie Marc-Andre Fleury suffered a concussion, the rookie has shone with a record of 6-1. He has yielded three or fewer goals in five of his seven playoff starts. His goals-against average in the postseason is 1.81 and his save percentage is .944. Needless to say, look for the Pens to stay with the hot hand and go with Murray again in Game 5 of this series Saturday night.
May 4 - 11:48 PM

Patric Hornqvist's goal at 2:34 of the first overtime period gave the Penguins a 3-2 triumph in Pittsburgh Wednesday night and a 3-1 lead over the Washington Capitals in the teams' best-of-seven, second-round playoff series.

Hornqvist's goal was his fifth in the postseason and second in his past two games. He also contributed his third assist of the playoffs on a first-period goal by Trevor Daley. Daley's goal, his first of the playoffs, came at 9:16 of the opening period and tied the game at 1-1. Veteran Matt Cullen nudged the Pens ahead 2-1 temporarily with his third goal of the postseason, scored at 3:07 of the second period. Pittsburgh defenseman Brian Dumoulin assisted on the goals by Cullen and Hornqvist and he now has three on the postseason. The Pens would take this series with a win in Game 5 Saturday night.

Tyler Seguin (lower body) won't be back in the lineup for Game 4 against the St. Louis Blues.

He is skating back in Texas, but it doesn't seem likely that he will rejoin the team on the road. Seguin has played in just one game during the 2016 playoffs.
May 4 - 4:16 PM

Marcus Johansson (upper body) will be available to play in Game 4 on Wednesday night.

He didn't skate on Tuesday because of an upper-body injury, but he is OK to play versus Pittsburgh. Johansson stayed in Game 3 after passing his concussion tests.
May 4 - 12:33 PM

Mike Ribeiro was scratched in Game 3 against San Jose as a coach's decision.

Coach Peter Laviolette said it was just "a lineup decision I made" and he wouldn't speak more about the matter. Ribeiro has one assist and a minus-3 rating in nine postseason matches. He has also won just 35 percent of his faceoffs. The Predators won Tuesday 4-1, so Ribeiro could be back in the press box for Game 4 on Thursday night.
May 4 - 10:41 AM

David Backes scored twice in the Blues 6-1 blowout of Dallas in Game 3 to help St. Louis take a 2-1 series lead.

The Blues captain now has back-to-back games with two points and has been credited with the game winner in both the wins. He has three game winners in these playoffs alone. That is eight points in 10 games for Backes. Vladimir Tarasenko scored and added two assists and Alex Steen added two goals in the blowout win. The Blues best players have been great the last two games and that has led to wins.
May 4 - 3:05 AM

Patrick Marleau scored the Sharks' lone goal in a 4-1 Game 3 loss to Nashville on Tuesday.

Patrick Marleau gave San Jose a 1-0 lead at 13:13 of the first period on a breakaway. Marleau split the Predators defense and beat goaltender Pekka Rinne to the loose puck. Marleau was able to skate around Rinne and shoot the puck into an empty net. Unfortunately for the Sharks, that was all they could muster against the Preds goalie on this night. It was the first loss for the Sharks on the road this postseason.
May 4 - 1:30 AM

Shea Weber scored a goal and added an assist in Nashville's Game 3 win over San Jose on Tuesday.

Weber was dominant at both ends of the ice and logged 24:02 of ice time. Everyone was calling for him to step up after going pointless and having a minus-2 through the first two games of the series. He has seven points in 10 playoffs games now and was credited with the game winner. Filip Forsberg, James Neal, Colin Wilson scored the other goals and the Predators converted twice on the power play.
May 4 - 12:59 AM

Brian Boyle scored the game-winning goal in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime win over the Islanders in Game 3.

The Bolts battled back from 1-0, 3-2, and 4-3 deficits in this one. Forward Nikita Kucherov tied the game at four with 38 seconds remaining in the third period to force overtime. In the extra frame, it took Boyle just 2:48 seconds to bury the winner. There was some controversy leading up to the goal, as Boyle took Isles defenseman Thomas Hickey out of the play with a solid bodycheck. Boyle has two goals and 16 penalty minutes this postseason. Tampa Bay leads the best-of-seven series 2-1.
