Seth Jones may open the 2013-14 season with Kevin Klein as his defense partner.

Coach Barry Trotz said Jones is learning to play on the left side and it was initially thought that the fourth overall pick in the 2014 draft would play alongside the right-handed shot of Shea Weber. Jones would still occupy the left side if he plays with Klein, but it would allow him to face slightly more favorable match-ups and help the Predators manage his ice time more efficiently.

Alex Pietrangelo has been placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.

He is scheduled to be reevaluated in three weeks. Pietrangelo didn't practice on Monday after he left Saturday's game in the third period after a collision with Minnesota's Charlie Coyle.

Andrei Vasilevskiy is expected to start Monday night against Ottawa.

He was the first goaltender off the ice at the morning skate, so he's probable to start. That will place Ben Bishop between the pipes for Tuesday's contest at Montreal.

Al Montoya is probable to play against Detroit on Monday night.

He was the first netminder off the ice at the morning skate, so it looks like he'll get the nod against the Red Wings and Roberto Luongo will face Buffalo on Tuesday. Adjust your lineup accordingly.
Feb 8 - 12:02 PM

Evgeni Malkin (lower body) will not be back in the lineup on Monday night against Anaheim.

Coach Mike Sullivan said that Malkin is listed as day-to-day. This will be the third straight game he has missed because of a "nagging" lower-body ailment.
Feb 8 - 11:30 AM

Tyler Johnson appears to be getting his groove back.

"I feel good. I still think there is room for improvement, but I feel my body is feeling as good as it has all season," Johnson said. "I'm starting to get into the groove and starting to be able to play." He has looked more like his speedy self in two games following the All-Star break and he has collected two goals and two assists over those matches.

Feb 7 - 6:26 PM

Connor McDavid was the only reason Oilers had to smile during Sunday's 8-1 loss to the Islanders.

That's because McDavid batted home his seventh goal and 18th point of the season. He's not picked up points in three of his last four games, totaling two goals and six points in that span.

Ben Scrivens swept the weekend with a 2-1 shootout win over Carolina on Sunday.

Scrivens turned away 34 of 35 shots faced, including all seven on special teams. For the weekend he stopped 57 of 59 shots in the wins over Carolina and Edmonton. Mighty impressive for the veteran netminder trying to reestablish himself in the NHL.
Feb 7 - 6:04 PM

Another impressive milestone was reached when Alex Ovechkin potted his 30th goal of the season in Sunday's 3-2 win over Philadelphia.

Make that 11 straight seasons to begin his illustrious career with at least 30 goals, only Wayne Gretzky (13) and Mike Gartner (15) have accomplished the feat. Might as well start creating Ovie's Hall of Fame plaque now.
