Bill Peters has officially been hired by the Calgary Flames as the team's 19th head coach.

Peters resigned from coaching the Carolina Hurricanes this past Friday. He served as head coach of the Hurricanes for the last four seasons, but failed to make the playoffs each time.

T.J. Oshie will indeed play in Game 6 against Columbus on Monday night.

Oshie skipped the morning skate again, but he was expected to play. Coach Barry Trotz confirmed that Oshie would be in the lineup. He is slated to play alongside Nicklas Backstrom and Chandler Stephenson.

Wild owner, Craig Leipold, announced Monday that the team will not renew the contract of Executive Vice President and General Manager Chuck Fletcher.

"I want to thank Chuck Fletcher for his substantial contributions to our franchise over the past nine years," said Leipold. "Through his strong work ethic, integrity and vision, Chuck and his staff built a winning culture and a perennial playoff team. For all of that I am grateful. I feel it is time for a new approach aimed at delivering a Stanley Cup to the deserving fans of the State of Hockey. I wish Chuck and his family the very best going forward." Brent Flahr, who had been working as the Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations for Minnesota, will serve as acting GM until a replacement is found.
Apr 23 - 12:33 PM

Joe Thornton (knee) will not play in Game 1 against the Vegas Golden Knights.

This was according to coach Peter DeBoer who stated so on Sunday. Thornton has been practicing with the team for a few weeks and has partaken in the warmups as well but his return is still up in the air. Thornton had 36 points in 47 regular season games, so his presence in the lineup will definitely be a bonus once he is able to return.
Apr 23 - 8:40 AM

Pekka Rinne made 22 saves in Nashville's 5-0 romp over Colorado in Game 6 to knock out the Avalanche.

Rinne turned in his best performance of the series and posted his fourth career postseason shutout. The Predators move on to face a tough Winnipeg squad that beat Minnesota in five games. Rinne improved to 4-2 in the playoffs with a 2.60 goals-against average and .909 save percentage.

Sean Couturier played with a torn MCL in Games 5 and 6.

Couturier missed Game 4 because of the injury, but he returned to the fold quickly. He is not expected to require surgery in the off-season, but in regular season it probably would have amounted to a four-week recovery. Couturier was Philadelphia's best player in the series even after he was injured.
Apr 22 - 6:36 PM

Sean Couturier had a hat trick and two assists in the Flyers' 8-5 loss to Pittsburgh in Game 6.

Couturier did everything he could to extend this series one more game, but he didn't get enough support from his teammates. Couturier missed Game 4 due to a knee injury, but he returned for Game 5 and managed to score the game-winning goal. While the Flyers' campaign is now over, this certainly was a remarkable series for Couturier and it comes after a breakout regular season where he scored 31 goals and 76 points in 82 games.
Apr 22 - 6:05 PM

Jake Guentzel scored four goals and registered an assist to the Penguins to an 8-5 win over Philadelphia and clinch their first round series.

The Penguins won the series in six games thanks in part to Guentzel's heroics. Guentzel caught fire in the second half of the contest, scoring in the final minute of the second period and adding another three in the third. That gave him four straight goals on his own before the Flyers finally ended his run. He was great throughout the series with six goals and 13 points in six games.
Apr 22 - 5:56 PM

The Pittsburgh Penguins have confirmed that Evgeni Malkin (leg) will miss Game 6.

As we previously reported, Malkin didn't join the team for their pregame warmups, so we anticipated him being ruled out of the game. However, it's official now so we're passing that along. It's certainly a big absence for the Penguins, but the silver lining is that Patric Hornqvist is returning from his upper-body injury.
Apr 22 - 3:10 PM

Mathew Barzal has been named as a finalist for the Calder Trophy.

Barzal is the heavy favorite to win after scoring 22 goals and 85 points in 82 games. In terms of points, only two players had better rookie campaigns than him in the salary cap era. They were Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby. Clayton Keller and Brock Boeser are the other two nominees for this year's Calder Trophy.
Apr 22 - 2:53 PM

Patric Hornqvist (upper body) is expected to return to the Penguins' lineup on Sunday.

Hornqvist has joined the Penguins for their pregame warmups and is skating on the top line with Sidney Crosby and Jake Guentzel. Getting Hornqvist back is a nice boost for the Penguins, but it's particularly helpful given that the Penguins are expected to be without Evgeni Malkin (leg) Sunday afternoon.
