With Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and now Sam Gagner sidelined, the Edmonton Oilers are looking pretty thin up the middle.

This could be an opportunity for Boyd Gordon though as he might end up serving as the team's second-line center. "Boyd has more offense than what his goal scoring numbers last year in Phoenix (four goals) would lead you to believe. It (offense) might be enhanced by playing with more skilled players. Phoenix doesn't have the firepower that we should have," said Oilers GM Craig MacTavish. Well, Gordon doesn't just have a single anemic offensive season under his belt. He's 29 years old and has never recorded more than 29 points in a single NHL season. With that in mind, we can't recommend picking him up yet, but he's at least worth keeping a close eye on.

John Tavares will meet with Dallas, Boston, San Jose, Toronto, Tampa Bay and the Islanders this week at CAA offices in Los Angeles.

Tavares is also expected to have conversations with two or three other teams over the phone and he might meet with one or two of them. The 27-year-old center can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. There is still a definite possibility that he re-signs with the Islanders.

Petr Mrazek did not get a qualifying offer from Philadelphia.

Mrazek was not expected to be retained by the Flyers, so this shouldn't come as a surprise. He got off to a hot start after he was acquired from Detroit, but quickly faded and overall he failed to impress. Mrazek will look for another chance elsewhere, as an unrestricted free agent, after two lackluster seasons in a row.

Rick Nash is reportedly interested in returning to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

According to the Athletic's Aaron Portzline, Columbus is at the top of Nash's list and the team has been showing more interest than they did at the trade deadline. However, Portzline added that Boston and other teams will be in the mix as well for the veteran winger. Nash started his NHL career with the Blue Jackets after the team selected him first overall in 2002. He last played for the club in 2011-12.
