Cam Atkinson has agreed to a three-year, $10.5 million contract extension.

Atkinson has 13 goals and 25 points in 58 games in 2014-15. That's a substantial jump from his previous average annual salary of $1.15 million, but that's not surprising given that the 25-year-old has established himself as an important part of the Blue Jackets. He would have been eligible to become a restricted free agent this summer.

The Montreal Canadiens have acquired Jeff Petry from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a 2015 second-round pick and a conditional 2015 fifth-round selection.

The condition on the second pick is based on how far Montreal advances in the playoffs. If they win a postseason round, Edmonton will get Montreal's fourth-round pick and if Montreal wins two playoff series then the Oilers will end up with their third-round selection. Petry will help bolster a defense led by P.K. Subban and Andrei Markov and fill the gap left by Alexei Emelin (upper body). Petry has four goals and 15 points in 59 contests and is capable of logging top-four minutes. He's set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
