Whitney's stock has obviously fallen hard over the last few seasons, but he still has the potential to be a solid offensive defensemen. The problem is that the Blues have one of the best defenses in the league, so Whitney cracking it was an uphill battle.

Martin Necas has been returned to HC Kometa Brno of the Czech Extraliga.

Necas made one appearance with the Hurricanes after he made the team out of training camp. He logged just 6:54 of ice time against Edmonton on Oct. 17. Necas, who was the 12th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, had seven goals and eight assists in 41 matches with Brno in 2016-17.

Kyle Palmieri is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

Palmieri was injured in Sunday's practice when he crashed hard into the boards. He likely won't be on the ice for Monday's session, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

Brian Boyle (chronic myeloid leukemia) is slated to practice with the Devils for the first time this season on Sunday.

That's great news for Boyle who was diagnosed with the illness during training camp. We hope he is healthy and has a successful return to the NHL.

Jaromir Jagr suffered a lower body injury in the first period Saturday and did not return.

If you were thinking about claiming Jagr this week, just hold on, as the extent of the injury is unknown. It's too bad as he looked to have plenty of chemistry with Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau. Jagr has only two assists in five games but he had looked good until the injury Saturday. Stay tuned.

Cam Fowler suffered a knee injury Friday night but the extent of the injury has not been announced.

It does not look good for the Ducks defenseman as he could not put any pressure on the knee leaving the ice. Fowler could be out weeks or even months depending on the severity of the injury and that will hurt the Ducks and your fantasy team. Anaheim plays on Tuesday and look for Hampus Lindholm to return to the lineup. Brandon Montour should be bumped up to the top power play as well.

Alex Pietrangelo scored a goal in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Vegas Golden Knights.

Pietrangelo took a feed from teammate Jaden Schwartz and promptly blasted a one-timer passed Oscar Dansk to tie the game in the third period. Pietrangelo now has 11 points in nine games this season and has really come into his own offensively after the departure of Kevin Shattenkirk. Pietrangelo is looking like a new contender for the Norris Trophy.

Chris Stewart scored a goal in a 4-2 win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday night.

Stewart made an impressive play to swat his own rebound out of the air and passed Mike Smith on the power play for his 6th goal of the year. Stewart impressively has goals in five of six games this season. Still only owned in 7% of leagues, he should be added in every format.

Bobby Ryan suffered a broken index finger in Saturday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Head coach Guy Boucher said he expects Ryan to be out for about a month. The Sens forward has no goals and six assists in eight games this season.

Jeff Skinner scored a pair of goals in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Dallas Stars.

Skinner got the Hurricanes on the board with 10 seconds left in the second period to cut his team's deficit to 4-1. His second tally made it 4-2 in the third. Skinner finished the night with two penalty minutes and five shots on goal in 16:17 of ice time. He's accumulated four points in his last two games, and he's up to six points in six games this season.

Aleksander Barkov picked up a goal and an assist in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Washington Capitals.

Barkov registered the primary assist on Vincent Trocheck's power play goal (3-0) in the second period. Barkov then added a shorthanded goal into an empty net in the dying moments of the third frame. He finished the game with a plus-1 rating and three shots on goal in 26:18 of ice time. Barkov now has two goals and four assists in seven games this season. The thing that stands out about Barkov right now, is that he's averaging 22:49 of ice time, which is rather high for a forward.

Anze Kopitar scored two goals and an assist in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Kopitar's first goal was scored at the 6:51 mark of the first period, and it tied the game one. He also helped set up Jake Muzzin's second-period marker, which tied the game at three. Kopitar's second goal proved to be the game-winner, as he gave Los Angeles a 5-4 lead in the third frame. The Kings captain finished the night with a plus-5 rating, three shots on goal and he managed to win 68 percent of his faceoffs. He has six goals and 11 points in seven games this season. Teammate Dustin Brown had a four-point night (one goal, three assists) in the victory.
