Tomas Vokoun (blood clot) has been moved to the long-term injured reserve list.

Vokoun will be out for up to six months. This move will provide the Penguins with some cap flexibility.

Chris Kunitz (foot) participated in Wednesday's practice.

"He was back to take all drills except for contact drills, so that was the normal step," coach Mike Johnston said. "So he was into really the first step of coming back into practice. Tomorrow he'll do the game-day skate full out, then I don't expect that he's going to be playing at all tomorrow. And Friday will give us another chance to get a good quality practice for him." Kunitz has been out of commission since Nov. 29 with a foot fracture, but he's hoping to resume playing before Christmas.
Dec 17 - 2:48 PM

Sidney Crosby (mumps) skated on his own before practice on Wednesday.

"He looked good on the ice. It was a full skate," said coach Mike Johnston. "He worked on some extra conditioning drills." He isn't infectious anymore and has resumed skating, so it probably won't be long before he's back in the lineup. Thursday's match against Colorado is a possibility.
Dec 17 - 2:43 PM

Scott Darling has been reassigned to the minors.

The move was announced late on Tuesday. Darling has been excellent during his stints in the NHL this season. He owns a 5-2-0 record with a .937 save percentage and a 1.97 goals-against average. However, the Blackhawks will keep Antti Raanta as Corey Crawford's backup.
Dec 17 - 12:30 PM

Ben Bishop (lower body) hopes to be back by the end of the week.

"I just tweaked something at the (end) of the first," Bishop said referring to the lower-body injury he sustained on Monday. "I just figured there was a minute, 15 (seconds) left so I could just wait until the intermission. Nothing serious and hopefully I can be back by the end of the week. We'll take it day-by-day." The Lightning will practice on Thursday and Bishop wants to be on the ice to test his ailment.
Dec 17 - 11:28 AM

Devan Dubnyk stopped 31-of-32 shots faced in Arizona's 2-1 OT win over Edmonton on Tuesday night.

Dubnyk helped the Coyotes snap a nine game home losing streak by standing tall through regulation and overtime against an equally desperate Oilers squad. With Mike Smith really struggling, it's highly likely we see more of Dubnyk in the near future. The 28 year-old is 6-2-2 on the season with a respectable 2.56 goals against average to go with a .922 save percentage.
Dec 17 - 1:08 AM

Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored with less than a second remaining in OT to push Arizona by Edmonton 2-1 on Tuesday night.

The goal was Ekman-Larsson's third overtime goal of the season and his fourth game winning marker overall. The Swedish d-man logged 31:37 of ice time and added eight shots in this contest. He has points in two straight games and 15 in 31 games on the campaign. He is turning out to be a lone bright spot in what has been a train wreck of a season so far in the desert. Brandon McMillan scored the goal in regulation time for the Coyotes.
Dec 17 - 12:56 AM

Vladimir Tarasenko continued his breakout season Tuesday as he registered a hat trick and added an assist in the Blues' 5-2 win over Los Angeles.

Tarasenko's four points bring his season total to 36 and place him just two off the NHL lead. Jaden Schwartz and Alexander Steen also found the back of the net for the Blues in the come-from-behind win.
Dec 17 - 12:10 AM

Roberto Luongo and the Panthers outlasted Washington Tuesday night in the longest shootout in NHL history.

Lounge turned aside 23 of 24 shots through regulation and overtime and followed-up that performance by denying the Capitals on 15 of 20 shootout attempts. He definitely earned his 11th win of the season and brings his record to 11-6-6 in the process.
Dec 16 - 11:32 PM

Alex Galchenyuk tallied three times for the Canadiens as part of a 4-1 victory over Carolina Tuesday night.

The combination of Galchenyuk on Montreal's top line alongside Brendan Gallagher and Max Pacioretty was dynamite on this night, as Gallagher and Pacioretty combined for four points of their own. Brandon Prust also found the back of the net for Montreal in the win.
Dec 16 - 10:25 PM

Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy enjoyed a solid NHL debut Tuesday as he stopped 23 of 24 shots to backstop the Lightning to a 3-1 win over Philadelphia.

The injury sustained by Ben Bishop is not thought to be a serious one, but it's quite reasonable to think Vasilevskiy will receive most of the playing time in his absence, as Evgeni Nabokov has done very little to instill confidence this season. The young Russian is worth a short-term add in goalie-desperate leagues.
Dec 16 - 9:46 PM

Jordan Staal (fractured fibula) might be able to return within the next two weeks.

Staal hasn't played yet this season due the injury. Carolina has gone 8-18-3 without him and Staal's return probably won't be enough to dig the Hurricanes out of that hole. Obviously it's too early to know what the lines will look like once Staal returns, but this has the potential to hurt Riley Nash's fantasy value as he's been averaging 17:48 minutes per game and leading the team in faceoffs taken in Staal's absence.
