Jimmy Howard (hand) hopes to be back in the lineup Thursday in Colorado.

He missed Monday's win over Boston because of a bruised left (catching) hand. Howard suffered the injury against Philadelphia on Saturday, but thought he could play through it. Jonas Gustavsson will start his second straight game Tuesday night as Howard's replacement.

Chris Wideman's lower-body injury is a "ripped" hamstring, per Senators coach Guy Boucher.

Wideman will be sidelined for "weeks" as a result. He was hurt on Thursday when he fell awkwardly in the third period with Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin on top of him. Wideman has three goals and eight points in 16 games this season.

Auston Matthews (upper body) took part in Friday's practice.

Matthews was skating on a line with Zach Hyman and William Nylander. He might be able to return on Saturday, but that hasn't been decided yet. He's missed four straight games so far.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have confirmed that they have signed Cam Atkinson to a seven-year extension.

The contract had been reported Thursday night, but it was suggested that the deal was worth $40.25 million when he actually signed for a little more at $41.125 million. He could have become an unrestricted free agent this summer after completing his current three-year, $10.5 million deal. He set career-highs last season with 35 goals and 62 points, but he's been cold so far in 2017-18 with six points in 15 contests. Perhaps now that the weight of the contract talks are over, he'll start to heat up.

Duncan Keith was unavailable for another practice due to an illness.

It was anticipated that Keith would be able to play on Saturday despite the bug, but given that he's now missed back-to-back practices we're going to err on the side of caution and list him as day-to-day. He has no goals and 10 assists in 19 games this season.
Nov 17 - 12:53 PM

Mike Smith (upper body) has confirmed that he will be available on Saturday.

We suspected as much after the Flames sent goalie Jon Gillies to the minors Thursday afternoon, but now we have confirmation. Smith only ended up missing one game due to the ailment.

Vladislav Kamenev suffered a broken arm in his Colorado debut Thursday night.

Torey Krug is listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Krug was forced to leave Wednesday's game against Anaheim and wasn't available to play Thursday night. "He didn't respond as well we liked today, so he'll be out and we'll see where he is," said coach Bruce Cassidy.

Eric Staal picked up a goal and two assists in a 6-4 win over the Nashville Predators.

Staal picked up the loose puck at the side of the goal and buried his seventh goal of the season to tie the game with just under five minutes remaining in regulation. The 33-year-old center continues his resurgence with the Wild and is currently at 17 points in 18 games this season.
Nov 16 - 10:57 PM

Ryan Johansen scored a goal and picked up two assists in a 6-4 loss to the Minnesota Wild.

Johansen scored his first goal of the season and broke Minnesota's 195 minute shutout streak just 49 seconds into the first period. It was Johansen's first goal of the season, and he is currently sitting at 11 points in 18 games this season. Now might be the only time to buy low on the talented center.
Nov 16 - 10:56 PM

Antti Raanta stopped 33 of 37 shots in a 5-4 win over the Montreal Canadiens.

His best save of the night came late in the third period when he slid across to rob Alex Galchenyuk of a tying goal. It's Raanta's second win of the season, and the first for Arizona during regulation. The 28-year-old netminder has a 2-5-2 record with a 3.27 goals against average and .903 save percentage.
