As expected, Nicklas Lidstrom is part of the 2015 class for the Hockey Hall of Fame.

He was elected by a selection committee of 18 on Monday and will be inducted into the Hall on Nov. 9 in Toronto. His 20-year NHL career, all with the Red Wings, saw him play 1,564 games (fourth among defensemen) and he racked up 1,142 points. Lidstrom's trophy case includes four Stanley Cups, seven Norris Trophies, a Conn Smythe Trophy and an Olympic Gold Medal. He was a lock to be inducted and it is easy to see why he is considered one of the greatest defensemen ever. Joining Lidstrom in the Hall of Fame will be Sergei Fedorov, Chris Pronger, Phil Housley, Angela Ruggiero, Peter Karmanos and Bill Hay.

Zac Rinaldo has been shipped to the Boston Bruins for a third-round draft pick in 2017.

He earned one goal, five assists and 102 penalty minutes in 58 games last season as a member of the Philadelphia Flyers. Rinaldo has amassed 572 minutes in the sin bin over 223 matches with Philly in four seasons.

Los Angeles has terminated Mike Richards' contract.

"The Los Angeles Kings today have exercised the team's right to terminate the contract of Mike Richards for a material breach of the requirements of his Standard Player's Contract," said the team in a statement. "We are not prepared to provide any more detail or to discuss the underlying grounds for the contract termination at this time." It's being widely speculated that there will be a battle between the NHL, Los Angeles, the NHLPA and Newport over Richards' deal. His contract is off the books for the Kings for now, but it will likely be subject to a grievance.

Cody Hodgson has been placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout.

He had four seasons and $19 million remaining on his six-year contract, so the buyout will cost the Sabres $6.33 million if he goes unclaimed. Hodgson notched just six goals and seven assists in 78 games last year. He was eager to bounce back, but now he'll have to do that somewhere else.

Antti Niemi has signed a three-year contract with the Dallas Stars worth an average annual value of $4.5 million.

Niemi was acquired from the Sharks for a seventh-round draft pick. He posted a 31-23-7 record to go with a .914 save percentage and a 2.59 goals-against average in 61 games with San Jose last season. He is slated to share the crease with Kari Lehtonen in 2015-16.

GM Dale Tallon believes a new contract will be finalized with Jonathan Huberdeau soon.

"I think we'll get this down very shortly," Tallon said. "We're very close on getting something done. I don't see any problems." Huberdeau is eligible for restricted free agency after producing 54 points in 79 games last season.

The Los Angeles Kings have placed center Mike Richards on waivers.

Once Richards clears, the Kings will then buy him out. It will be an expensive buyout as Richards will make $14.67 million over the next 10 years. Even though his play has been declining for a while now, the 30-year-old should drum up some interest on the free-agent market because his cap hit will be more affordable. Richards had five goals and 16 points in 53 games with Los Angeles in 2014-15.

The Philadelphia Flyers made a bold move after the draft, sending Nicklas Grossmann and Chris Pronger's contract to the Arizona Coyotes for Sam Gagner and a conditional draft pick.

The Flyers unload dead money and get a reclamation project in Gagner. Gagner, still just 25, had 41 points in his only season with the Coyotes. There's potential for him to make a leap, even if he has his flaws.

The New York Rangers sent prospect Ryan Haggerty to the Chicago Blackhawks for goalie Antti Raanta.

With Cam Talbot out of town, the Rangers needed a new backup for Henrik Lundqvist, so Raanta will (cheaply) fit the bill. Chicago saves money, as they already had Scott Darling in place behind Corey Crawford heading into 2015-16.

The Toronto Maple Leafs traded for defenseman Martin Marincin, the Edmonton Oilers received the 107th pick and Brad Ross.

Marincin, 23, scored five points and generated 16 PIM in 41 games for the Oilers last season.
Jun 27 - 12:33 PM

The Edmonton Oilers acquired Cam Talbot and pick 209 from the New York Rangers for picks 57, 79 and 184.

Talbot is a UFA, so the Rangers obviously wanted to get something for him rather than spending money on an older goalie with a relatively small resume. Meanwhile, the Oilers hope to get some goaltending answers at a fairly reasonable price.
