Kevin Porter was placed on waivers Thursday.

If he clears then he's expected to be assigned to AHL Rochester. Ville Leino and Cody McCormick are close to returning to action from their injuries, so the Sabres needed to free up a roster spot. In nine games this year, Porter has no points, three shots and a minus-6 rating.

Marc Methot will be out of action for four-to-six weeks after he had his knee scoped on Monday.

Methot, who has been put on injured reserve, hasn't played since Nov. 6 with what was initially listed as a "lower-body injury." He has no points in 15 games this season. Methot's extended stay on the sidelines explains why the Stars brought up Julius Honka from the minors on Monday.

Kari Lehtonen is unavailable indefinitely due to personal reasons, according to Dallas GM Jim Nill.

The Stars also announced that Mike McKenna has called up from the Texas Stars to serve as Ben Bishop's backup. Lehtonen has played in seven games and has made five starts this campaign. Hopefully, whatever issue he is dealing with goes well and he can return to the team as soon as possible.

Mark Borowiecki suffered a concussion on Sunday night against the New York Rangers.

Borowiecki crashed into the boards after he was involved in a third-period collision with Brendan Smith. Ottawa coach Guy Boucher confirmed that Borowiecki lost consciousness on the ice before he was helped off and that he was concussed on the play. A timetable for his return is unclear at this time.

Joe Pavelski has been playing hurt of late with an unspecified injury.

Well that makes sense as his stats have been very un-Joe Pavelski-like. He has had 68 points or better the last four seasons but has only four goals and eight points in 18 games thus far. "Joe’s playing at not 100 percent, and I’ll be honest, a lot of guys maybe even wouldn’t be out there, dealing with what he’s dealing with," Sharks coach Pete DeBoer said Sunday. "He’s giving us what he can, and that still is effective." Well at least you know why he has been suffering on the scoresheet.

Surprisingly, Connor McDavid is ahead of his pace of last season when he had 100 points to lead the NHL.

McDavid has 25 points in 20 games this season and had only 24 in the same amount of games in 2016-17. He is far behind the point leaders this season as Steven Stamkos has 35 and is linemate Nikita Kucherov has 33 but he is still tied for sixth place in NHL scoring.

Johnny Gaudreau is on a nine game points streak.

Boy is the winger hot! Gaudreau has goals in five straight games as well and has 17 points during this streak. He will look to make it 10 in a row against the Capitals Monday. Gaudreau has nine goals and 29 points, good for third place in NHL scoring. He is a must-start.

John Gibson stopped the Panthers 50 times in Sunday night's 3-2 victory.

It was one save shy of his career high as the Panthers were rejected time and time again. The win, Gibson's second straight, improves his record to 7-6-1 this season with a .924 save percentage and 2.78 goals against average.

Henrik Lundqvist turned aside all 20 shots he faced from the struggling Ottawa Senators offence in a 3-0 win on Sunday night.

Lundqvist snapped a two game slump and his teammates made it relatively easy for him, as he needed to make just three saves while shorthanded. The King improves to 9-6-2 this season with a 2.81 goals against average and .911 save percentage.

Austin Watson has been suspended for two games for boarding Colorado's Dominic Toninato in Saturday's game.

Watson nailed Toninato from behind into the boards after Toninato was finished playing the puck. The NHL Department of Player Safety ruled that Watson could have avoided the hit, or at least reduced the force in driving him into the boards. This is Watson's first suspension in 159 games of NHL experience.

Radko Gudas has been suspended 10 games for slashing Winnipeg's Mathieu Perreault last Thursday.

Gudas, a repeat offender, was jostling with Perreault in his own zone before being thrown off balance by Perreault. He then swung his stick swiftly and deliberately at the back of Perreault's neck.

Nathan MacKinnon was late to the party, but ultimately helped the Avalanche edge the Red Wings 4-3 in overtime on Sunday.

MacKinnon assisted on Carl Soderberg's tying goal in the final minute of regulation, then scored the overtime winner to give Colorado the victory. MacKinnon, fresh off a five point performance last week against Washington, now has 22 points in 19 games this season.
