Edmonton Oilers No. 1 goalie Devan Dubnyk will miss Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Kings with what's believed to only be a minor ankle injury.

Rumblings indicate that Dubnyk would perform if this were a playoff game, but not an early regular season contest. Dubnyk is one of the league's hard-luck goalies, as he often puts up nice individual stats but falls short of wins because of poor support from his teammates.

Claude Giroux fueled the Flyers’ 7-4 rout of the Leafs with two goals and two assists Saturday night.

His 10 goals might not wow anyone just yet, but Girioux is having a fantastic season and it’s bound to get better. He has 10 goals on 126 shots, which is well below his career 11.5 percent scoring rate, and also has 29 assists, which leads the league. Other goal scorers in this one included: Michael Raffl (goal, assist), Sean Couturier (goal, assist), and Scott Laughton. Jakub Voracek had four assists, while Matt Read chipped in with two.

Jonathan Bernier was blasted for a touchdown in the Leafs’ 7-4 loss to Philadelphia on Saturday night.

This is the type of performance that can sink a fantasy week, for those who play in head-to-head leagues. The Leafs jumped out to a 2-0 lead, and it was pretty much all downhill from there. Bernier gave up three in the first, two in the second and two more in the third. He has a 2.76 goals-against average and .917 save percentage this season. James Reimer came on for 10:28 and made a save on the only shot he faced.

Andrei Vasilevskiy did his best to singlehandedly backstop the Lightning to at least a point, but his 45 saves weren’t enough in the 3-1 loss to the Islanders on Saturday night.

The Lightning were lucky this was even a game in the third period as the Islanders thoroughly dominated them, finishing with 47 shots, compared to 21 for the Lightning. Vasilevskiy was perfect until 16:51 of the third period, and he ended up giving two goals in 12 seconds. It appears that Ben Bishop is close to returning to the lineup, but Vasilevskiy has certainly made a case to be used as a backup if Evgeni Nabokov continues to struggle. He has a 1.51 goals-against average and .958 save percentage in two games this season.

Alex Tanguay recorded three points to lead the Avalanche to a 5-1 win over the Sabres on Saturday night.

Tanguay scored twice -- once via the empty net -- and assisted once. While much of the Avalanche are performing under expectations, the 35-year-old has turned back the clock with a great start to the season. Tanguay has 11 goals and 22 points in 30 games this season. Erik Johnson and John Mitchell each notched a goal and an assist, while Cody McLeod picked up the other goal. Jarome Iginla tallied three helpers in the win.

Anze Kopitar is a big reason why the Los Angeles Kings beat the Arizona Coyotes 4-2 on Saturday, as he collected three assists.

Kopitar now has eight points in his last two games and nine in three. The OC Register's Rich Hammond points out that he's generated eight assists in as many periods. Overall, Kopitar has seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points in 31 games.

The bad news is that James Neal is sick, but the good news is that the Nashville Predators claim that he isn't dealing with the mumps.

The team hasn't dealt with too many huge injuries or bouts of illness, so the initial word of Neal's sickness left some worried. Neal has 11 goals, 19 points, 23 PIM, 106 SOG and 35 hits so far this season.

Red-hot prospect Connor McDavid is expected to play for Canada on Sunday at the World Junior Championship.

He's been dealing with a hand injury that sidelined him starting on Nov. 11. The wunderkind will play against Sweden tomorrow. Many expect him to be a superstar, so there might be some cellar-dwelling NHL teams that may prefer for him to wait a little longer to return.
Dec 20 - 1:01 PM

Andre Burakovsky will spend two games with the Hershey Bears before returning to the Capitals.

Coach Barry Trotz wants to get Burakovsky some playing time after he had been a healthy scratch in five of the last six games. Burakovsky will get top six minutes with the Bears. He is not going to play for Sweden in the World Juniors as Trotz said he is the team's 13th forward and they may need him. "One of the reasons we’re not sending him to the World Junior is he’s right now, we sort of have him as our 13th forward," Trotz said. "But at the same time, we’ve got some people that are hurt, there’s mumps going around, there’s a lot of reasons where you don’t want to commit to having him go, then you need him down the road, not be able to get him. It wouldn’t be fair to another kid who could get named to the team, then we have to pull him back from there. Once he goes there, you can’t [retrieve] him until [Jan.] 6, I believe. That was one of our concerns. We’ve got a lot of games in the next two weeks."

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled Derrick Pouliot from the minors.

Pouliot is probably the Penguins best prospect in the AHL and the defenseman has seven goals and 20 points in 23 games thus far. With Christian Ehrhoff questionable and Olli Maatta and Robert Bortuzzo out of action, the Penguins are in need of blueline help. He is worth picking up in keeper pools and should see some ice time on the second power play.
Dec 20 - 10:00 AM

Jimmy Howard will not play Sunday against Colorado.

He sustained a lower-body injury that the Red Wings don't believe is serious in Friday's loss to New Jersey. Consider Howard day-to-day, although there is a good chance he will sit until after the Christmas break.
Dec 20 - 9:35 AM

Ryan Johansen has a goal and three assists in his last 10 games.

When you throw in a minus-eight rating, it's hard to believe that the Blue Jackets are 7-2-1 in that span. Johansen has nine goals and 28 points in 31 games with a minus-12 rating but his lack of training camp time due to contract negotiations, may finally be hitting him.
