Jaromir Jagr doesn't plan on playing his last season in 2014-15.

"I don't think that way," Jagr said. "I love the game. What I want to tell you is I don't know if it's going to be the last year in the NHL. If I stay healthy, it's not going to be my last year in hockey. I want to play until 50, maybe more. But I want to play in the NHL if I'm good enough. I don't want to just be here just to be here." The 42-year-old winger had 24 goals and 67 points in 82 games last season. Jagr said he signed a one-year contract because he likes the added pressure of having to prove himself. Coach Pete DeBoer said Jagr is in great shape and the future Hall of Famer intends to play better than he did a year ago.

Nathan Horton is out indefinitely with a back injury that has bothered him for most of the summer.

It's doubtful at this time that he will participate in training camp and he could miss the start of the regular season as well. Horton missed 40 games because of off-season shoulder surgery and he suffered an abdominal injury late in the year as well. He had five goals and 19 points in 36 games last season.

Anthony Mantha will be sidelined for six-to-eight weeks due to a fractured right tibia.

He was injured Monday while playing in a rookie tournament game with Detroit's other prospects, but still finished the contest. "He's going to be in crutches for a while, take the weight off," said Red Wings GM Ken Holland. "We think somewhere around six weeks he should be back up and running and skating and from there playing. In the meantime we got lots of other people looking for opportunity." The 20th overall draft pick in 2013 was slated to compete for a roster spot at training camp, but this injury will prevent that from happening.

Evgeni Malkin has a minor undisclosed injury.

Malkin will miss the start of training camp due to the ailment. There's no reason for the Penguins to push the star player to participate in practices weeks before the start of the season.

Sidney Crosby will miss the start of training camp due to an undisclosed injury.

Crosby's ailment isn't related to his previously injured wrist. Whatever it is, it's considered minor. The Penguins will be cautious with their captain when training camp opens, so he'll be held out of on-ice workouts that begin Friday.

Teemu Selanne's new biography revealed that he didn't see eye-to-eye with Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau.

Selanne felt Boudreau didn't make proper use of him and pointed to his limited playing time as evidence. That was a longstanding disagreement between them, but it reached its boiling point when Selanne was made a healthy scratch in Game 4 of the Ducks' first-round series against Dallas in 2014. Selanne confronted Boudreau over what he felt was a humiliating act and the two haven't spoken since. Selanne went as far as to skip the exit interviews. Selanne did add that he feels the differences between the two are hockey-related and not personal.

Ryan Johansen, a restricted free agent who led the Blue Jackets in scoring last season, has left Columbus on the eve of training camp, unhappy with the club's contract offer to him - but coach Todd Richards insists he won't let the matter distract his team.

"Right now he's not here," Richards said. "I'm treating it like the regular season when you deal with an injury. He's not in the lineup. You move past it. If he's in the lineup, great; if not, I've got to find somebody else that'll do it. The one thing that will become an issue from what I've seen in the past, just based on my history and what I've been through as a coach, is when you miss time in training camp you try to play catch-up and a lot of times you can't catch up."

He expressed his wish to return to the Wild during the summer and it looks like he will get his chance following the news that Josh Harding is out indefinitely due to a fractured foot.
