Derek Stepan notched his second career hat trick to power the Rangers to a 5-1 win over the Hurricanes on Saturday night.

After missing training camp, Stepan started the year slowly, but he's rounding into form now and again emerging as a top-tier center for Team USA. Stepan's goals were his first of the season, but he now has 10 points on the year, with 14 shots over the last two games. Carl Hagelin, in his third game since coming back from shoulder surgery, scored twice. His speed and puck-possession ability has been a boon to New York. Chris Kreider and Mats Zuccarello, both on Stepan's line, picked up three assists apiece.

Anders Nilsson will be the Canucks' starter on Wednesday.

Jacob Markstrom got the nod on Tuesday, so he's getting a breather. Nilsson has a 4-1-1 record, 2.30 GAA, and .929 save percentage in six games this season.
Nov 22 - 6:07 PM

Antti Niemi will play between the pipes Wednesday night.

Niemi was claimed off waivers by Montreal on Nov. 14 and this will be his first start with the Canadiens. He has a 6.67 GAA and .820 save percentage in six games this season.
Nov 22 - 6:03 PM

Shea Weber (lower body) won't be available for Wednesday's contest.

Weber also missed Tuesday's contest. He was initially considered questionable for Wednesday's game, but he's now ruled out. Blueliner Jakub Jerabek will make his NHL debut as a result. Meanwhile, Weber should be regarded as day-to-day.
Nov 22 - 5:58 PM

Steve Mason is expected be the Jets' starter on Wednesday.

Mason was the first goaltender off the ice following the morning skate, which is usually a good gauge of who the starter will be. He's had a rough campaign with a 1-3-1 record, 3.76 GAA, and .892 save percentage in six contests.
Nov 22 - 5:34 PM

Ryan McDonagh (abdominal strain) will miss at least two games.

McDonagh had already been ruled out of Wednesday's contest, but he won't play on Friday either. The plan is to reevaluate him on Sunday.
Nov 22 - 5:22 PM

It looks like Maxime Lagace will play between the pipes on Wednesday.

Lagace was the first goaltender off the ice following the morning skate, which is usually a good indication of who the starter will be. He's been pretty good lately, winning three of his last four starts. Still, it's a bit surprising to see Vegas continue to lean on him now that Malcolm Subban is healthy.
Nov 22 - 3:04 PM

Shea Weber (lower body) is questionable for Wednesday's game.

Weber couldn't play on Tuesday due to the ailment. It would be particularly unfortunate if he can't play Wednesday night as the Canadiens will be facing his old team, the Predators in Nashville.
Nov 22 - 1:21 PM

Anton Khudobin will get his third straight start on Wednesday.

Boston's riding the hot hand as Khudobin held the competition to just a goal in each of his last two starts. He has a 5-0-2 record, 2.17 GAA, and .935 save percentage in eight games this season.
Nov 22 - 12:41 PM

Rasmus Ristolainen (upper body) took part in Wednesday's practice.

Sabres coach Phil Housley described Ristolainen as "very close" to returning while Ristolainen seemed even more upbeat. "I told everyone I'm ready," said Ristolainen. "I'm in good shape right now. I felt good. I felt fresh, and the legs were going. It's been long weeks lately, and I'm excited to get back." Ristolainen was hurt on Nov. 2 and his absence has been a big blow to the Sabres as he had been averaging 27:10 minutes per game. He isn't expected to play on Wednesday, but perhaps he'll return as early as Friday.
Nov 22 - 12:18 PM

Semyon Varlamov is continuing to battle an illness.

Varlamov didn't practice on Tuesday due to the disease and on Wednesday the Avalanche decided it was necessary to summon Andrew Hammond. Jonathan Bernier will play between the pipes and presumably Hammond will serve as the backup.
Nov 22 - 12:06 PM

Kyle Palmieri suffered a broken foot against Minnesota on Nov. 20.

Palmieri is expected to be sidelined for four-to-six weeks. He has already been limited to 13 appearances this year because of injuries and can't seem to catch a break in terms of his health. Palmieri has been productive when he's been in the lineup with four goals and nine points.
