Joe Thornton assisted on both of San Jose's goals on Friday.

Thornton now has 1,354 career points, giving him sole possession of 25th place on the all-time list ahead of Brendan Shanahan. Thornton's gotten that far through his ability to perform like a star player deep into his 30s. He's reached the 60-point mark in 15 campaigns and the 70-point milestone in 12 seasons.

The NHLPA has rejected an NHL proposal where the league would agree to participate in the 2018 Winter Olympics in exchange for a three-year extension to the CBA.

NHLPA executive director Don Fehr still hopes to work out a deal that would allow the players to participate in the Olympics, but not on those terms. If the players had agreed to the proposal, then the existing CBA would have been extended to 2025. Part of the NHL's hesitation to participate in the Olympics stemmed from the idea that the IIHF and IOC wouldn't cover costs of insurance, accommodation, and travel that could run up to $10 million. However, IIHF president Rene Fasel recently suggested that those costs could be covered for the NHL. Still, Olympic participate means suspending the NHL temporarily during the heart of the season and putting star players at risk of injury outside of NHL games. NHL players have participated in the last five Olympics though.

Dec 2 - 10:09 AM

Anze Kopitar picked up a pair of assists in the Kings 4-3 win over Arizona.

The apples snapped a two game pointless streak for the all-star. He has had a slow start to the season with just nine points in 19 games. He started slow last season too though and really came on in the second half. We would bet for more of the same as he is still in the prime of his career. Get him in your lineups.
Dec 2 - 3:31 AM

Travis Zajac collected his first career hat trick during Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Blackhawks.

Now there's a feather for the ol' cap. Zajac is up to eight goals and 18 points in 23 games so far this season.
Dec 2 - 3:04 AM

Connor McDavid extended his point streak to seven games during Thursday's 6-3 win over the Jets.

And if that weren't enough, he has five multi-point games with a trio of games, like tonight's, in which he's posted three points. Tonight, though, he had merely a trio of helpers giving him nine assists and 15 points during the streak. McDavid has 23 assists and 34 points in 25 games. Wow.
Dec 2 - 2:41 AM

Ondrej Kase scored his first career goal in the Ducks 3-1 win over Vancouver on Thursday.

The goal was an ugly one but they all count. This one counted even more as it turned out to be the game winner. Kase banked the puck in off two Canucks from behind the goal-line and past Ryan Miller. The goal gave the Ducks a 2-0 lead. Kase played over 15 minutes of ice-time, the most in single game in his career. He has three points in eight games. Jakob Silfverberg opened the scoring and Andrew Cogliano got the insurance marker late to seal the win.
Dec 2 - 2:38 AM

John Gibson made 27 saves on 28 shots in the Ducks 3-1 win over Vancouver on Thursday.

Gibson pretty much slept walked through the first half of this game with the Canucks not sustaining much pressure in the Ducks zone but he earned the win in the second half. Gibson made his best saves killing consecutive penalties midway through the second period, including a 5-on-3 for 58 seconds. The only goal to get passed him was a Henrik Sedin tap in off a weird bounce off the glass. The 23-year-old is 8-7-3 with a 2.43 GAA and .915 save percentage in 18 games appearances this season.
