Loui Eriksson (concussion) hopes to return Saturday in San Jose.

"I would think so," Eriksson said after skating Thursday morning. "We'll see. I don't know exactly what they're thinking, but I would hope (tomorrow)." He missed his 15th straight game Thursday because of a concussion.

Bryce Salvador has announced that he is ending his playing career.

Salvador will continue to work with the Devils as well as other hockey organizations in New Jersey in the hopes of being "an example for young players and spread access to the game for everyone." The 39-year-old defenseman had 24 goals and 110 points in 786 career games with the St. Louis Blues and New Jersey Devils. Along the way he was a major contributor in the Devils' 2012 run to the Stanley Cup Final as he recorded 14 points in 24 playoff contests and averaged 22:24 minutes per game.

There have reportedly been a minimum of five teams that have inquired to the Chicago Blackhawks about the availability of Patrick Kane.

Kane is under investigation for an incident that allegedly occurred at his residence on August 2nd. According to media reports, Kane is being accused of raping a woman. No charges have been pressed. He signed an eight-year, $84-million contract, which is scheduled to begin this season.

Kings GM Dean Lombardi doesn't feel that Los Angeles and Anze Kopitar are even in the same ballpark when it comes to Kopitar's contract negotiations.

Kopitar is entering the final campaign of his seven-year, $47.6 million contract. He means a lot to the Kings' franchise so it would be surprising if he doesn't eventually agree to terms. At the same time, based on what Lombardi said we have to wonder if Kopitar will head into training camp without a new deal. He has 218 goals and 610 points in 683 career games with Los Angeles.

The St. Louis Blues didn't make big changes this off-season, but GM Doug Armstrong's still hoping to bring in the "first of many" Stanley Cups.

That's a throwaway comment at a fan event, for the most part, but it's also a reminder that the Blues boast a lot of the tools a team needs to go big. Don't be too shocked if there's an in-season trade or two if St. Louis gets off to a slow start.

CSNBayArea.com's Kevin Kurz pegs Tommy Wingels for a career-year in 2015-16, even if health is a bit of an issue.

Wingels has 20-goal, 50-point potential, according to Kurz. The 27-year-old would need to see quite a jump from what seemed like breakthrough seasons in 2013-14 and 2014-15 (38 and 36 points respectively) to do so. Based on those numbers, 20 goals and 40 points might be a safer wager.

Mark Stone said he has fully recovered from a wrist injury.

"I've felt great out there, the last couple of skates," he said. "The shot feels good, the hands feel good, the legs are starting to come along. I'm 100 percent." He suffered a microfracture and some ligament damage in his wrist when he was slashed in the playoffs. Stone also feels motivated to prove that he is worth the three-year, $10.5 million contract that Ottawa rewarded him with after he was the runner-up for the Calder Trophy last year. Stone was placed alongside Kyle Turris at the start of February and the duo is expected to be together this campaign on the Senators' top line.

Elias Lindholm has agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $5.4 million.

He will make $2.5 million in 2016-17 and then $2.9 million during the 2017-18 campaign. Lindholm, who was the fifth overall pick in 2013, showed plenty of promise last season while recording 17 goals and 39 points in 81 games. "We expect he will be a very important part of the Hurricanes as he continues to develop as a professional," GM Ron Francis said after the signing.

Patrik Berglund sustained a shoulder injury while training for the upcoming season and he'll be re-evaluated in four months.

He will undergo surgery on his right shoulder on Friday. Berglund had 12 goals and 27 points in 77 games last season.

Mike Richards has been charged for possession of a controlled substance while entering Canada, according to RCMP Manitoba's Twitter account.

He will appear in court on September 10th. Richards had his contract terminated by Los Angeles because of "a material breach of the requirements of his Standard Player's Contract" before the start of free agency. The NHLPA has filed a grievance on Richards' behalf, but a hearing date hasn't been set yet.

Nicklas Backstrom (hip) isn't sure if he'll be ready for the start of the regular season.

"It is very difficult to answer," he told Swedish newspaper Arbetarbladet on Tuesday. "We will see here now (after evaluating) with the coach and fitness coach. There has been considerable focus on enhancing mobility in the hip again. From the beginning I could not run or anything." The good news is Backstrom has been skating and working out with trainer Andreas Ohgren. He is slated to take part in training camp, but it could be in a limited capacity. However, we won't know that until he gets back to North America and he's examined by the Capitals. If he does miss the start of the regular season then it doesn't appear as though he will be sidelined for very long.
Aug 26 - 4:01 PM

Phil Kessel is likely to start training camp on the same line as Sidney Crosby, according to coach Mike Johnston.

"We're looking at Crosby with Kessel and Malkin with Hornqvist," Johnston said. "On the left side, there are a number of players. Even right wingers like David Perron or Beau Bennett might be there. We want to see how a guy like Pascal (Dupuis) looks." The lines will probably be tinkered with during the Penguins' eight-game exhibition schedule, but it looks like Crosby will have a star winger by his side this season. Kessel is a five-time 30-goal scorer who has hit 80 points in two of his last four seasons.
