With the Ducks eliminated from the 2018 playoffs, Francois Beauchemin's playing career has ended.

San Jose earned a 2-1 win over Anaheim Wednesday night to complete the four-game sweep of the first round series. It's certainly not the exit Beauchemin was hoping for. "Really disappointing obviously," Beauchemin said. "I don’t think anybody saw that coming. We played so well the last 15, 20 games of the regular season. It felt like we didn’t really have the push to give during that series." Regardless, Beauchemin had a great career that spanned 903 games between his stints with Anaheim, Colorado, Toronto, and Columbus. He also appeared in an additional 101 playoff contests and won the Stanley Cup with Anaheim in 2007. He was a workhorse throughout his career and his average playing time in a regular season game was 23:35 minutes.
Apr 19 - 4:24 AM

Tomas Hertl scored a goal in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks.

The victory means that the Sharks have swept the Ducks in four straight games. Moments after Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf turned the puck over in his own end, Hertl tipped a Marc-Edouard Vlasic shot by John Gibson to give the Sharks a 2-1 advantage. Hertl has now found the back of the net in three consecutive games. The 24-year-old is up to three goals and four points in four games during the postseason. San Jose will now face the Vegas Golden Knights in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Apr 19 - 1:15 AM

Filip Forsberg picked up a goal and an assist in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Colorado Avalanche.

Forsberg opened the scoring in the first period when he went around Duncan Siemens before beating Jonathan Bernier. He then added the primary assist on Colton Sissons' tally in the second frame to make it 2-0 for Nashville. Forsberg finished the night with a plus-1 rating and three shots on goal in 15:24 of ice time. The 23-year-old has three goals and five points in four games this postseason. The Predators now have a 3-1 advantage in this best-of-seven series. Nashville will have a chance to eliminate Colorado on Friday night.
Apr 19 - 12:58 AM

Jonathan Bernier suffered a lower-body injury in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Nashville Predators.

Andrew Hammond was between the pipes to start the third period (Colorado was trailing 3-0 at the time). The Avs are down to their third string netminder now that Semyon Varlamov and Bernier are both out. Bernier turned aside 23 of 26 shots in the defeat. He now has a 1-3 record with a 3.87 goals-against-average and a .883 save percentage this postseason. The Avalanche now find themselves down 3-1 in this best-of-seven series. They'll look to save their season in Nashville on Friday night. The Avs will likely provide an update on Bernier's status in the next day or so. We'll consider him day-to-day for now.
Apr 19 - 12:14 AM

Sami Vatanen was forced from Wednesday's Game 4 loss to Tampa Bay due to an upper-body injury.

Vatanen was injured on a hit from Nikita Kucherov, who appeared to make contact with the Devils defender's head. No penalty was called on the play and Kucherov may get a call from league for the hit. Heading into tonight's Game 4 matchup, Vatanen led all Devils in average ice-time with 23:23 per game and it would be a huge loss if he is unable to recover in time for Game 5. Consider his status day-to-day for now.
Apr 18 - 10:24 PM

Nikita Kucherov scored two goals and picked up an assist in Wednesday's 3-1 Game 4 win over the New Jersey Devils.

Kucherov first got on the scoresheet with a primary assist on J.T. Miller's first of the post-season. The Russian forward then scored the game-winner less than four minutes later with a quick shot from the slot before adding another goal into an empty net. Despite the big night offensively, all anybody will be talking about is high hit he committed on New Jersey's Sami Vatanen that went unpunished and forced the Finnish defenseman out of the game. It could something for the league to review before Game 5 on Saturday.
Apr 18 - 10:23 PM

Calle Jarnkrok (upper body) will be back in the lineup for Game 4 on Wednesday night.

Jarnkrok was on the ice for the pregame warmups and he will play for the first time since Mar. 13. He is projected to skate alongside Ryan Hartman and Mike Fisher on the fourth line.
Apr 18 - 10:01 PM

Sidney Crosby scored a goal and picked up an assist in Wednesday's 5-0 Game 4 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Crosby's assist on Evgeni Malkin's opening goal tied him with Mario Lemieux for the most playoff points in franchise history. Crosby then broke the record with a goal to give him sole possession of the record with 173 points. He's now up to nine points through four games this post-season. The Penguins will head back to Pittsburgh with a 3-1 series lead with Game 5 scheduled on Friday.
Apr 18 - 9:40 PM

Josh Morrissey has been suspended one game for cross-checking Wild forward Eric Staal in the head on Tuesday night.

Somehow, Morrissey didn't receive a penalty on the play. Staal was in a considerable amount of pain after the incident, but he ended up being fine. Morrissey will miss Game 5 on Friday night. If the Jets win that game, he'll be eligible to return in the second round. If they lose, he'll be back in the lineup for Game 6. The 23-year-old has one assist and a plus-1 rating in four games this postseason.
Apr 18 - 7:17 PM

Nolan Patrick will center Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek on Wednesday night.

Patrick is centering the top line because Sean Couturier is unavailable for this game. The 19-year-old has one goal and one assist in three games during the postseason. This is a great opportunity for the rookie.
Apr 18 - 7:06 PM

Anze Kopitar has been chosen as one of the nominees for the Selke Trophy.

The 30-year-old had a terrific season, as he posted 35 goals and 92 points in 82 games with the Kings. He's also been one of the better two-way players in the game for quite some time, so it's not surprising to see him receive a nomination for this award. Boston's Patrice Bergeron and Philadelphia's Sean Couturier are the other two nominees. Kopitar is likely the favorite to win the award in 2018.
