Jamie Benn has undergone surgery on his ailing hip, but he'll have another procedure in about week.

He is getting some rest before his other hip has surgery and then his four-to-five month recovery will begin. Benn had been suffering through a hip issue for most of the season, but that didn't stop him from winning the Art Ross Trophy, as the league's leading scorer, with 87 points in 82 games.

Niklas Kronwall will have a hearing with the league on Tuesday afternoon for his hit on Nikita Kucherov.

Changes can be made upon review, but supplemental discipline is being looked at based on charging/illegal check to the head. Kronwall wasn't given a penalty on the play and Kucherov appears to have avoided injury as well.

Evgeny Kuznetsov scored with 7:18 remaining in the third period Monday night to give the Washington Capitals a dramatic 2-1 triumph over the visiting New York Islanders in the seventh and deciding game of the teams' Eastern Conference First Round playoff series.

Kuznetsov broke a 1-1 tie with his third goal and fourth point of the postseason. The speedy center made a terrific move to skate around Islanders center Frans Nielsen before roofing a wrist shot over goalie Jaroslav Halak from the slot. The Caps, who were 3-9 in Game 7 playoff matches, advance to face the New York Rangers in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The start of that series is to be determined. The Caps dominated the Isles in the shot department Monday night. They fired 26 shots on Halak. The Isles managed only 11 shots at Washington goalie Braden Holtby. Joel Ward opened the scoring for Washington with his first goal in the playoffs. The assists went to Brooks Orpik and Washington superstar Alex Ovechkin, who now has three assists in the playoffs. The Isles tied it on a Nielsen goal at 3:13 of the third period before Kuznetsov notched the game and series winner.

Tyler Johnson scored two goals and the Tampa Bay Lightning forced Game 7 of the Eastern Conference First Round series against the Red Wings with a 5-2 victory Monday night in Detroit.

Game 7 will take place Wednesday in Tampa Bay. Johnson has been hot for the Lightning in this series. He now has five goals. He was not the highest point-getter for the Lightning in Game 6, though. Nikita Kucherov was. He had three assists. Kucherov drew assists on the game's first three goals, scored by Johnson, Jason Garrison (first of the playoffs) and then Johnson again. Johnson's second goal came at 9:09 of the second period. The Wings narrowed the gap to 3-2 early in the third period after a pair of goals by Tomas Tatar, but then the Lightning extended their lead again on goals by Alex Killorn (second of the series) and Cedric Paquette (first). Paquette's goal was a short-handed, empty-netter, recorded at 19:03 of the third period.

Drew Doughty has been announced as a finalist for the Norris Trophy.

He averaged 28:59 of ice time per game in 2014-15, while posting seven goals and 46 points in 82 games. Doughty posted 219 shots and he led the NHL with a SAT of 410. He was a finalist for the award in 2009-10, but that was the year Duncan Keith won his first Norris Trophy. P.K. Subban and Erik Karlsson are the other finalists for this season.

Shea Weber sustained a subluxed kneecap during Game 2 of Nashville's first-round series against Chicago.

Steve Stamkos insisted Monday that he isn't playing hurt.

"Obviously cause I'm not scoring, people think you're injured," Stamkos said. "That's not the case. I feel great. Obviously everyone is going through some bumps and bruises at this time (of year). But if I had a couple goals, nobody would ask me if i was injured." He hasn't scored a goal in the playoffs yet after finishing second on the league with a total of 43 during the regular season.

Carey Price stopped all 43 shots he faced in Sunday's 2-0 series clinching win over Ottawa.

Price was outstanding from the beginning of this game until the very last second. The Canadiens came out of the gate strong, but Ottawa took over from the middle of the first period until the end of the game. After one period the shots were 13-13, but Ottawa was able to fire 30 shots in the final 40 minutes while the Canadiens had just seven. After a difficult performance in game five, Price rebounded nicely in this contest. Montreal may not be able to score much but having a goaltender like Price will make them a tough out in any playoff series.
Apr 26 - 9:08 PM

Zach Parise scored two goals in Sunday’s 4-1, elimination win over St. Louis.

Parise opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal that goalie Jake Allen will be embarrassed to have let in. Parise also added the insurance marker at the 1:01 mark of the third period. The Wild will now advance to the second round of playoffs where they will face the Chicago Blackhawks. Many people underestimated the Wild coming into the playoffs but they have great goaltending and timely scoring. This will be a rematch of last year’s second round matchup, as the Blackhawks eliminated the Wild in six games.
Apr 26 - 6:00 PM

Jori Lehtera will play in Sunday's game six tilt against the Minnesota Wild.

Lehtera (lower body) missed game five because of an injury, but his return to the lineup should give the Blues a boost. He was skating on a line with Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Tarasenko. The Blues need to win to keep their season alive.
