Darren Helm's hat trick powered the Red Wings over the Maple Leafs on Saturday night 4-2.

Helm's first-career three-goal game couldn't have come at a better time with Detroit fighting for a playoff spot. Helm scored twice in the second -- once shorthanded -- and another in the third to give him 10 goals on the year. Gustav Nyquist potted the other. Jakub Kindl assisted twice and finished a team-high plus-two on the night.

Ilya Bryzgalov is probable to start for the Ducks Thursday against San Jose.

He was the first goalie off the ice and the Ducks play again Friday versus Chicago, so Frederik Andersen will probably play that contest. Bryzgalov made 14 saves in a 5-1 win over New Jersey on Jan. 16 in his last outing.

Joffrey Lupul has been activated by the Maple Leafs and he'll be back in the lineup on Thursday.

He has sat out the last 11 games with a lower-body injury. It's still unclear where Lupul will play, but it wouldn't be surprising if he bumped Leo Komarov of the top line and skated alongside Nazem Kadri and Phil Kessel.
Jan 29 - 3:12 PM

Taylor Hall (leg) won't be in the lineup on Thursday against Buffalo.

"He's still day-to-day and going under treatment," coach Todd Nelson said. "I don't have any answer on when he'll be back. We just take it every day and see if he's getting better." Hall didn't take part in the morning skate and he didn't practice on Wednesday either after missing Tuesday's game with a bone bruise.

Martin Brodeur officially called it a career on Thursday.

He announced his retirement in a press conference at Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Brodeur was named a senior advisor to Blues GM Doug Armstrong for the rest of this season and he's excited about the change. "This is a great day for me," Brodeur said. "I'm excited to start a new chapter in my hockey career. It's something I've been thinking about." He won't have any trouble getting into the Hall of Fame after he set NHL goaltending records in games (1,266), wins (691), shutouts (125), consecutive 20-win seasons (12), consecutive 30-win seasons (12), and consecutive 40-win seasons (three).

Jason Spezza will make his return to Ottawa on Thursday night as a member of the Dallas Stars.

The Senators visited Dallas on Jan. 13, but this meeting will be different. Spezza spent 11 seasons in Ottawa before requesting a trade. He has fond memories of his former team, but he is happy to be with the Stars. "When you're in the same spot for a long time, sometimes it takes a hard decision," said Spezza. "Hopefully, they appreciate I gave everything when I was here and tried to do all I could to help us win." He is getting more comfortable with his new team and will take a five-game point streak (one goal, five assists) into Thursday's match.
Jan 29 - 12:20 PM

Craig Anderson has a hand injury that will probably keep him out of the lineup against Dallas on Thursday.

Andrew Hammond is up with Ottawa on an emergency recall and Robin Lehner will get the nod when the Senators host the Stars. Consider Anderson day-to-day for now.

Patrick Kane scored and added a helper in Chicago's 4-3 loss to the LA Kings on Wednesday.

Kane picked up his 23rd goal of the season in the loss and his 53rd point in 48 games. He now has six points in his last four games. If he keeps up this pace he has a shot at eclipsing his career high 88 points he registered back in 2009. Patrick Sharp also added a goal and an assist in the loss. Andrew Shaw scored the other goal for Chicago.
Jan 29 - 2:08 AM

Jonathan Quick stopped 26-of-29 shots to help the Kings beat the Blackhawks 4-3 on Wednesday.

It was just his second win in 2015 but was an impressive one as the Kings came from behind to beat rival Chicago. He hasn't been great this month but still holds a solid 17-10 record with a 2.48 GAA and .911 save percentage. Hopefully this galvanizing win jump starts his game as LA goes into the stretch drive and you try to win your fantasy pools.
Jan 29 - 1:57 AM

Jeff Carter scored twice and added an assist to lead to the LA Kings to a 4-3 win over Chicago on Wednesday.

Carter sniped two shots past Blackhawks' goalie Corey Crawford for his 13th and 14th goals of the campaign. He now has three goals in two games after going six straight without finding the back of the net. Carter has 36 points in 48 games this season. Jake Muzzin and Tyler Toffoli were credited with the other two goals while Anze Kopitar picked up two helpers.
Jan 29 - 1:44 AM

All-star Alex Ovechkin scored two goals in the Washington Capitals' 4-0 shutout over the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins Wednesday night.

The goals were Ovechkin's 28th and 29th of the season. They gave the Caps a 2-0 lead after two periods. Nicklas Backstrom assisted on both goals and now has 35 on the season. Defenseman Mike Green also assisted on Ovechkin's second goal and chipped in with a goal of his own in the third period. It was his fifth tally of the season. Eric Fehr also netted a goal in the third period for the winners and now has 15 on the season.
Jan 28 - 10:44 PM

New Jersey goalie Cory Schneider stopped 29 of 30 Toronto shots before the Devils defeated the Maple Leafs 2-1 in a shootout Wednesday night in New Jersey.

Schneider kicked aside 12 power-play shots by the Leafs, many of them off the sticks of James van Riemsdyk and Tyler Bozak from close or point-blank range. Schneider also was fortunate when a blast by Leo Komarov from the left hash hit the far post midway through the second period. Schneider continues to improve for the Devils as the season progresses. He now has a very good goals-against average of 2.37 and a save percentage of .921 in a league-high 42 starts for NHL goalies in 2014-15. His record is 17-19-4. He wouldn't be a bad addition for the season's second half if he were available in fantasy leagues.
