Jamie Benn's three points fueled the Stars' crucial 5-2 win over the Lightning on Saturday night.

Benn had two goals and an assist to give him 32 goals and 74 points this season, both of which rank 10th in the league. We knew Benn was talented, so it was only a matter of time before it all came together for the 24-year-old with all the tools to be a force in for many years. Tyler Seguin also scored, his 35th of the season, and had an assist while Vernon Fiddler matched that with a goal and an assist of his own. Antoine Roussel notched the other. Ryan Garbutt had two helpers. The win moved Dallas into a playoff spot, one point over the Coyotes.

Matt Murray has not been on the ice since he suffered a lower body injury prior to Game 1 of the first round on April 12.

That does not bode well for Murray and it looks as if Marc-Andre Fleury will be between the pipes for Game 1 of the second round later this week. There is no timetable at this time for the return of Murray to the Penguins lineup.

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet is reporting that Ilya Kovalchuk wants to return to the NHL.

Kovalchuk left the New Jersey Devils at the end of the 2012-13 season to play in his native Russia by 'retiring' from the NHL. The sniper is only 34 years of age and had 417 goals and 816 points in 816 games before bolting to the KHL. He may or may not return to New Jersey and if not, a team will have to pay the Devils a pretty penny. "The New Jersey Devils own his rights, he could sign and play for them no problem," said Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada. "If he wants to play for somebody else, technically all the other NHL teams would have to approve it. But here's the way that this I think is going to work: if he doesn't want to play for New Jersey or if New Jersey doesn't want him playing for them, and neither the agent nor the team is commenting on this, I think whoever gets him is going to work out either a sign and trade with New Jersey or they’re going to trade for his rights."

Cam Talbot was the standout as the Edmonton Oilers eliminated the San Jose Sharks with a 3-1 win in Game 6 on Saturday night.

Talbot stopped 27 out of 28 shots in Game 6, holding strong in the second period in particular when he stopped all 12 shots he faced. He helped Edmonton win their first series since 2006 by posting a 2.03 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage.

Mats Zuccarello scored twice to lead the New York Rangers in a 3-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens in Game 6 on Saturday.

Zuccarello had been fairly quiet in the first round series prior to Saturday's contest as he had one goal and no assists in five games, but he came through when the Rangers needed him the most. Thanks in part to his efforts, the Rangers are heading to the second round to face the winner of the series between the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators. Derek Stepan scored an empty-net goal to seal the game for New York. Kevin Hayes, J.T. Miller, Mika Zibanejad, Dan Girardi, and Ryan McDonagh each registered an assist.

Magnus Paajarvi scored the game-winning goal in Saturday’s 4-3 OT win over the Minnesota Wild.

He found the back of the net at the 9:42 mark of the extra frame. Not only did Paajarvi’s goal allow the Blues to win the game, it also allowed them to finish off their series against Minnesota in five games. Paajarvi finishes the first round with a goal and an assist in five contests. Vladimir Tarasenko, Alexander Steen and Paul Stastny also found the back of the net for St. Louis. The Blues will take on the Nashville Predators in the second round.

David Krejci's status for Game 6 against Ottawa is unclear.

Krejci suffered a lower-body injury on Friday night. The Bruins forward received treatment on Saturday, and he's considered day-to-day for now. Coach Bruce Cassidy said they'll find out more about his availability for Game 6 tomorrow morning.

Eric Staal was taken to hospital after crashing into the boards awkwardly on Saturday afternoon.

It was a scary incident. Staal came into the Blues zone with speed before firing a puck on goal. As he was skating towards the Blues net, his skate caught Jake Allen's pad, which caused him to crash into the boards awkwardly. Staal was down for a while, and he needed help getting off the ice. It's nice to hear he's in stable condition.

Paul Stastny (lower body) will play in Game 5 against Minnesota on Saturday afternoon.

Stastny's been out of the lineup since Mar. 23. His return definitely gives his team a boost. He'll play on a line with Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Tarasenko. Stastny finished the regular season with 18 goals and 40 points in 66 games this season. A Blues win would allow them to move into the second round.
Apr 22 - 3:05 PM

Paul Stastny is on the ice for the pre-game warmup.

Stastny has been out since Mar. 23 with a lower-body injury, but it looks like he's going to suit up in Game 5 this afternoon. Stastny had 18 goals and 40 points in 66 games this season. A win would allow the Blues to move on to the second round of the playoffs.

Alex Ovechkin will suit up in Game 6 against Toronto on Sunday, according to head coach Barry Trotz.

Ovechkin briefly exited Game 5 after taking a hip-check from Leafs forward Nazem Kadri, but he managed to return to the game. The Russian sniper was reevaluated by team doctors after the game, but he seems to have avoided serious injury.
Apr 22 - 12:46 PM

Andrew Shaw (upper body) won't play in Game 6 against the Rangers on Saturday.

It's unclear when Shaw suffered the injury, but there was a moment in Game 5 where he was slammed into the boards by Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi. He didn't leave the game, but the contact was pretty severe. Brian Flynn will take Shaw's spot in the lineup.
