Ryan Smyth has confirmed that he will retire at the end of the season.

Smyth will play in his final game on Saturday. He has 386 goals and 842 points in 1,269 career games. The Edmonton Oilers selected him with the sixth overall pick in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft and although Smyth also played for the Islanders, Colorado, and Los Angeles along the way, he will retire as a member of the Oilers.

Dustin Byfuglien (upper body) will miss the next two-to-four weeks.

There's just five weeks left in the rest of the regular season, so any setback could potentially be season ending. The timing is also unfortunate for the Jets, which are barely clinging onto a Wild Card spot. Byfuglien has 42 points and 118 penalty minutes in 65 games this season. His injury could lead to Paul Postma coming out of the press box.

The Boston Bruins have signed Reilly Smith to a two-year, $6.85 million contract extension.

Smith will consequently come with an annual cap hit of $3,425,000 through the 2016-17 campaign. He has 12 goals and 35 points in 63 games this season. Smith, who comes with a $1.4 million cap hit in 2014-15, would have become a restricted free agent this summer.

Torey Krug has agreed to a one-year, $3.4 million extension with Boston.

Krug is getting a big raise over the $1.4 million he's earning for the 2014-15 campaign. That's to be expected though as he has 11 goals and 31 points in 59 contests. He would have been eligible to become a restricted free agent this summer.

Nathan MacKinnon is expected to miss the next six-to-eight weeks with a fractured foot.

There's only five weeks left in the regular season, so it seems safe to drop MacKinnon in standard fantasy leagues. With 14 goals and 38 points in 64 contests, it's fair to say that MacKinnon's sophomore season didn't go as planned, but he's certainly not the first player to take a step back in his second season. We'll be looking for him to bounce back in 2015-16.

Jaroslav Halak allowed three goals on 31 shots as the Islanders topped the Nashville Predators 4-3 on Thursday night.

Halak improves to 34-13-1, just two wins shy of league-leader Carey Price and one short of Pekka Rinne, who he beat on Thursday. His .911 save percentage and 2.48 goals against average aren't quite in the league of the two goalies mentioned, but as long as he keeps scooping up the victories, Halak is one of the best fantasy goaltenders in the game right now.
Mar 6 - 1:47 AM

Pekka Rinne couldn't handle the potent Islanders offense on Thursday night as he surrendered four goals on 26 shots for his fourth straight loss.

Rinne has allowed 14 goals in his past four games in what has been one of his worst stretches of the season so far. Nashville has faced tough competition though with Detroit, Minnesota and both New York teams providing the losses. He still has a marvelous 35-12-3 record with a .926 save percentage and 2.14 goals against average.
Mar 6 - 1:44 AM

Jhonas Enroth came in for a struggling Kari Lehtonen on Thursday night and earned the shootout victory over Florida by making 10 saves in regulation and another three in overtime.

Enroth came in just past the halfway point in the second period after Lehtonen had allowed three goals on 14 shots. A change in scenery was thought to be a boost to Enroth's stat line, but he's just 1-4 since joining Dallas with an .877 save percentage and 3.21 goals against average.

Alex Ovechkin (lower-body) won't play in Thursday's game against Minnesota.

Ovechkin has played in 96 consecutive games coming into this one. The last game he missed was on January 24th, 2014 in New Jersey. The 29-year-old Hart Trophy candidate has been a huge part of Washington's success this season. He has 43 goals and 67 points in 65 games this season.
Mar 5 - 6:38 PM

Tyler Seguin (knee) skated with his teammates on Thursday for the first time.

He appears to be ahead of schedule in his recovery. "Tyler is really closing in on 'day to day' for us," coach Lindy Ruff said. "So I would say probably within a week...or sooner. It depends on how he responds to some heavy workouts here today and tomorrow." Seguin is feeling better but he knows he still has work to do. Still, it's encouraging to see that he's moving in the right direction.
Mar 5 - 2:35 PM

Trevor Daley will be out of action for two-to-four weeks, according to coach Lindy Ruff.

He was injured on a knee-on-knee hit by Islanders winger Matt Martin on Tuesday. Martin received a one-game suspension on the play.
Mar 5 - 1:20 PM

Alex Ovechkin is listed as a game-time decision for Thursday's match against Minnesota because of a lower-body injury.

He didn't take part in the morning skate and his status will be determined during the pregame warmup. Ovechkin leads the league with 43 goals and he's tied with linemate Nicklas Backstrom for the most points in the NHL with 67 in 65 games.
