Not only will Leafs coach Randy Carlyle be back next year, but the team announced Thursday that they have signed him to a two-year contract extension.

"It was important, after a disappointing end to the season and the arrival of Brendan as team president, to conduct a thorough review of the organization as we continue the work of building a winning tradition and culture for the Maple Leafs," said GM Dave Nonis. "That process started with the head coach, and as we analyzed it, we decided together that Randy Carlyle was the right person to lead this team. In Randy we know that we have a leader who has enjoyed a high level of success as both a player and a coach, including a Stanley Cup championship. It was important that the positives Randy brings to our team were not overshadowed by a finish to the season that we all must take responsibility for." Greg Cronin, Scott Gordon and Dave Farrish have been let go, so Carlyle will be looking for new assistants going into next season.

David Clarkson suffered a torn oblique Tuesday and he's expected to miss four-to-six weeks.

That will likely sideline him for the rest of the season. Columbus has been hit hard by injuries all year and Clarkson got to start in just three games with his new club. He didn't pick up a point during that time, but he racked up 14 minutes in penalties.

Daley is a big loss for the Stars. He averages 23:07 of ice time and he has collected personal highs with 16 goals and 33 points in 61 contests.

Andrew Hammond will get the nod for Ottawa again on Wednesday.

Jordan Caron skated alongside Matt Duchene and Jarome Iginla at practice on Tuesday.

He didn't record a point in 11 games for Boston this season, but Colorado appears to be giving him a good opportunity to succeed right off the bat. "It hasn't always been the way I wanted it to be in Boston, so I'm excited for a new start and to prove people wrong and show what I can do in the NHL," Caron said.

Frederik Andersen tied the NHL record for the fastest goaltender to reach the 50 career wins milestone when it comes to total decisions.

Andersen only needed 68 decisions (50-13-5) to reach that mark. Only Montreal's Bill Durnan, who got to the 50-win milestone on Dec. 16, 1944, has the same pace as Andersen in the history of the league. Andersen kicked out 29 of 30 shots in a 4-1 victory over Arizona on Tuesday. It was his first start since Feb. 8 due to a neck injury.

According to a report out of Pittsburgh, Christian Ehrhoff's concussion-like symptoms have returned.

"I had a little bump in the road," Ehrhoff said. "I felt great Wednesday coming back and the next day, too. But I had some symptoms again, and we're being cautious with that. I've been seeing the doctors." It was a relapse of the symptoms for Ehrhoff who was sidelined for 13 of the last 14 games for Pittsburgh. Ehrhoff was scheduled to travel with the team Tuesday for the game tonight against Colorado in Denver but that seems unlikely now. We will pass along more information when it comes but be prepared to have him out of the lineup for a little while longer at least.
