John Tavares told a Buffalo radio station on Thursday that his recovery from knee surgery is going well and that he's been cleared to resume skating.

"Everything's pretty much back to normal," Tavares told WGR 550 in Buffalo. "I was cleared last week to resume full activity, so I skated with the London Knights [of the Ontario Hockey League] as they're preparing for the Memorial Cup for three days and three practices, and I feel really good. I'm just happy I'm able to put this behind me, move forward, and look toward next season." Tavares was enjoying an excellent season before he sustained a torn MCL and a torn meniscus in his left knee. He was hurt while playing for Canada at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Rickard Rakell scored two goals for the Ducks in Wednesday night’s 5-3 win over the Bruins.

The Duck and Bruins were swapping goals most of the night and with the game tied 3-3 and less than three minutes remaining, Rakell fired one past Tuukka Rask for the game winner. This snapped a five-game streak in which Rakell failed to score a single point. The last time he was on the board was February 9 against the Sabres with one goal and one assist.

Matt Niskanen exited Wednesday's game against Philadelphia because of a lower-body injury.

Niskanen appeared to hurt his leg/knee after Flyers defenseman Radko Gudas collided with him. Niskanen played just over 10 minutes before leaving the game. He was never able to come back. We'll consider him day-to-day for now. You can watch the play by clicking the link below.

Braden Holtby stopped 33 of 34 shots in Washington's 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Only Brayden Schenn was able to beat Holtby tonight. The Capitals goaltender is an incredible 15-0-1 in his last 16 decisions. The victory over the Flyers also allowed him to become the fourth goalie in the league to hit the 30-win mark. Holtby will enter his next start with a stellar 1.99 goals-against-average and a .927 save percentage. He has to be considered the top fantasy player at his position.
Feb 22 - 11:14 PM

Evgeni Kuznetsov scored a pair of goals in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Kuznetsov extended Washington's lead to 2-0 late in the first period and his second marker of the evening made it 3-1 for his team in the second frame. He finished the game with four shots on goal and one hit in 15:12 of ice time. Kuznetsov has 14 goals and 47 points in 59 games in 2016-17. The Capitals forward has also racked up 12 points in his last 11 contests. Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie also scored for the Caps.

He got the morning off and now we know why. He is considered day-to-day. Jonathan Bernier is between the pipes for the Ducks against Boston and Jhonas Enroth is backing him up.

Kris Russell scored his first goal of the season in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Florida Panthers.

Russell picked the perfect time to score his first goal of the season, as he was able to break the 3-3 tie with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation. He finished the game with one shot on goal and a plus-2 rating in 19:55 of ice time. Russell has seven points in 49 games this season. Oscar Klefbom, Zack Kassian and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins also scored for Edmonton.

Ryan Callahan had a follow-up procedure on his ailing hip Tuesday and he is out indefinitely.

He has been limited to just 18 games this season and hasn't played since Jan. 7. Callahan missed the first eight matches of the year while recovering from off-season hip surgery and the ailment has continued to bother him. It wouldn't be surprising if he didn't play again this season, but that hasn't been determined yet.
Feb 22 - 4:05 PM

James Reimer will get the nod again for the Panthers on Wednesday against Edmonton.

Reimer has been outstanding lately, while posting a 5-0-0 record with a 1.44 goals-against average and a .948 save percentage in his last six games. That includes five starts. He made 26 stops in a 2-1 win over St. Louis on Monday.
Feb 22 - 3:08 PM

Erik Johnson (broken fibula) expects to return to the lineup on Saturday.

He has been sidelined since Dec. 3, but participated fully in Wednesday's practice. Johnson has 11 points in 23 games this season.
Feb 22 - 2:22 PM

Jeff Zatkoff has been placed on waivers.

The Kings appear to be preparing for Jonathan Quick's return to the lineup, but this doesn't mean it's imminent. Zatkoff has played in just 13 games this season, while posting a 2-7-1 record with a 2.95 goals-against average and an .879 save percentage.
Feb 22 - 12:28 PM

Mitch Marner (upper body) has already been ruled out for Thursday's game against the New York Rangers.

In some encouraging news, Marner was on the ice Wednesday morning with some teammates and he didn't appear to be having any issues. A return on Saturday could be a possibility. Marner will miss his fourth straight game on Thursday with what is believed to be a shoulder injury.
