The Ottawa Senators have signed David Legwand to a two-year, $6 million contract.

Legwand had 14 goals and 51 points in 83 games with Detroit and Nashville last season. He can't hope to fill the void left by Jason Spezza, but he is a solid top-two center and is actually something of a bargain at that price. He will earn $2.5 million next season and $3.5 million in 2015-16.

Johnny Boychuk would like to stay with the Bruins.

He's been surrounded by trade rumors and can become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 21014-15 season. Boychuk has faith that Boston can work out their cap issues. "Our GM (Peter Chiarelli) is a mastermind ... he's good with doing things like this (cap struggles) and we have some good players we've developed the last couple of years, but nobody's heard of them over on the west side (NHL)," he said. "You always want to stay with the team you're with (and won a championship). They're my (hockey) family."

Robin Lehner just wants a "fair chance" to earn his starts in Ottawa's crease.

"If I play good, I want to play. And if he plays good, he's going to want to play," Lehner said referring to his goalie tandem with Craig Anderson. "That's what you want on a team. You want two goalies pushing each other. If there's limited chance for one guy to play, he's not going to do as good. That's a little bit of what we wanted from our side. I think and I hope that's what's going to happen." Lehner inked a three-year, $6.75 million contract this off-season and earlier this week, Anderson agreed to a three-year, $12.6 million extension. He said that Anderson's deal didn't change his focus and it didn't upset him either.

Daniel Alfredsson decision to play this coming season probably won't come until just before Sept. 18, according to Detroit GM Ken Holland.

That is the date when players are set to report for training camp. "I haven't talked to him in about a month," Holland said. "He's training hard. He's training to play. He does want to play. When I last talked to him, he said he felt good — he wanted to feel great. He would love to play another year. He wants to play for us. He only wants to play if he feels he can contribute. The best test for him is to skate a couple weeks prior to training camp." Holland plans to touch base with Alfredsson next week.

Cory Sarich has been slowly recovering from injuries he sustained when he was hit by a Ford F-350 truck while cycling.

He suffered five cracked vertebrae, burns on his shoulder and wrist from the truck's muffler, a swollen left arm and leg, a large laceration to his head, and road rash. "My diagnosis was, pretty much, as good as it gets (for a situation like that) . . . a bit of a mess, but I'm doing well now," he said. "It's been four-and-a-half weeks and it's been a slow recovery." As you can imagine, Sarich is still feeling the effects of the accident and he's given up on cycling for good.

Ben Bishop (wrist) hopes to be fully healed by the time the regular season starts.

"The elbow healed up and that's back to 100 percent now. As for the wrist, I started skating in the last couple of weeks and I have a pad under my blocker now just to take away from some of the blow of taking shots off of it," he told NHL.com. "I was down in Tampa with the trainers and equipment guys to figure out a blocker to work with for the next month. I'm starting to take shots and it's getting there. It's not 100 percent yet, but hopefully before the start of the season it'll be close." At this point it looks like he'll be available for training camp, but his role could be limited depending on how his wrist feels.

Penguins GM Jim Rutherford isn't in a hurry to re-sign Marc-Andre Fleury, but he still holds him in high regard.

"I think he's one of the most talented goalies in the league," Rutherford said. "From my point of view, he's our goalie. There's no reason why he can't be our goalie for a long time." Fleury can become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2014-15 campaign. His agent, Allan Walsh, said he is on the same page as Rutherford and not having something worked out before the season starts is "of no consequence at all." Pittsburgh retained goaltender coach Mike Bales, who has been working hard to bring some consistency to Fleury's game, even though they cleaned house during the off-season. Fleury wants to remain loyal to the Pens as well and his preference is to be part of the organization for the "rest of his career."

Craig Anderson has inked a three-year contract with the Ottawa Senators worth an average annual value of $4.2 million.

He'll earn 4.75 million for the first two years of deal and 3.1 million in the season after. Anderson could've been an unrestricted free agent after the 2014-15 campaign, but Ottawa wanted to keep him in the fold. Robin Lehner also received a three-year deal this summer and it will be interesting to see how they share the crease moving forward.

Devin Setoguchi signed a one-year, $750,000 contract with the Calgary Flames on Saturday.

The 27 year-old Alberta native struggled last season with Winnipeg, managing just 27 points in 75 games to go along with a -5 rating. The six-foot, 205 pound winger soared to success in 2009 with a 65 point campaign with San Jose, but has failed to exceed 41 points in the five years and three teams since then. With a short-term, home-province contract, the former 8th overall pick from 2005 could cash in as a 28 year-old UFA if he revives his career this season with a group of young, dynamic Flames forwards.

Aaron Ekblad spoke on Saturday about his recovery from the concussion he sustained earlier this summer, and all signs point to the first overall pick being ready for the start of Panthers' training camp next month.

"The concussion is perfectly, completely gone. I feel great," said Ekblad. "I’ve been skating all this week, working out all this week. It’s gone. I feel great." These quotes from the Globe and Mail contradict a tweet from earlier in the day by the Toronto Sun, where Ekblad is quoted as saying his symptoms are "almost completely gone," and his workouts have been "ok." Whether or not Ekblad is completely symptom-free is unclear, but both sources seem to suggest that Florida's prized defenseman should overcome the setback on time for training camp on Sept. 18.

Marc Staal's agent, Paul Krepelka, told ESPN.com via email that it's "all quiet on that front right now," while referring to contract talks with the Rangers.

Staal bounced back in 2013-14 from some serious injuries in his previous two seasons, which included an eye ailment and concussion issues. Former New York blueliner and Hall of Famer Brian Leetch wants to see the Blueshirts lock up Staal to a contract extension. "My fingers are always crossed that Marc can stay healthy because he's on the verge of getting to that next level," Leetch said. "Obviously, that's my hope for him, and I think he's an elite player with the ability to be a top D in the league if he can continue to play and get those reps."

Jean-Sebastien Giguere officially retired on Thursday after 16 NHL seasons.

He posted 262 wins, a 2.53 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage in 597 career regular season appearances. Giguere was excellent in the playoffs, where he earned a mark of 33-17 to go with a .925 save percentage and a 2.08 GAA. He also won the Conn Smythe Trophy with the Ducks in 2003 despite losing in the Stanley Cup Final to New Jersey and then he captured the Stanley Cup in 2007. Giguere was originally drafted 13th overall by the Hartford Whalers in the 1995 draft.
