Tyler Seguin is excited by the off-season changes the Stars have made and he can't wait for October to come to get the year started.

"I think everyone's ready to go. I've been talking, even seeing the guys so much this summer, it's surprising for an off-season," he said. "In Boston, I didn't see my teammates that often, I guess, everyone kind of does their own thing. But this summer, with the Stars, it seems like we're always together every other week, but everyone's excited and ready for training camp to start." Seguin was in disbelief that the Stars acquired Jason Spezza at first. "When I actually saw the Spezza trade, or heard about it, I didn't believe it at first. I had to go online, social media these days, and see if it was confirmed." Spezza will play behind on Dallas' second line, which should give the team a balanced attack that was lacking in 2013-14.

Andrej Nestrasil scored in his Hurricanes debut, but his team came up short in a 4-3 loss to the Avalanche on Saturday night.

Nestrasil was just claimed off waivers, and he potted his first NHL marker with his new club. While he should become a solid NHL regular, he doesn’t really offer a ton of offensive upside at this point in his career. He has three points in his career. Nathan Gerbe and John-Michael Liles got the other goals. Riley Nash contributed with two assists.
Nov 22 - 11:49 PM

Jamie Benn powered the Stars to a 5-4 win over the Kings on Saturday night with two goals and an assist.

Benn had a quiet spell in which he tallied two assists in nine games, but he now has points in three straight — three goals and six assists altogether. He’s one of the game's best power forwards, with the chance to make something happen whenever he touches the puck. Benn has eight goals and 19 points this season and should get 30-plus goals and over 80 points when all is said and done. Tyler Seguin (goal, assist), John Klingberg (goal, assist) and Jason Demers picked up the other goals. Cody Eakin had two assists.
Nov 22 - 11:19 PM

Tyler Bozak netted two goals for the Maple Leafs in their 4-1 victory over the Red Wings on Saturday night.

The center got one shorthanded and one via the empty net, but they all count nonetheless. Through the Leafs’ ups and downs and constant scrutiny, Bozak has been a pretty productive player, with eight goals and 19 points this season. He is streaky and has been banged up in recent seasons, but when he’s in the lineup, he produces offensively. Leo Komarov and Peter Holland scored the other goals. Jake Gardiner led the team with five shots on goal.
Nov 22 - 10:37 PM

Jaroslav Halak won his sixth straight game as the Islanders defeated the Penguins on Saturday night 4-1.

Halak is on a roll right now, giving up a total of eight goals during his win streak. Saturday, he made 27 saves. A lack of good goaltending was one of flaws that separated the Islanders from the contenders over the last few years. Now they have it. Halak has a 2.42 goals-against average and .918 save percentage this season. He’s a sneaky-good number-one goalie in fantasy leagues.
Nov 22 - 10:07 PM

Jhonas Enroth blocked 43 shots in Buffalo’s 2-1 win over the Capitals on Saturday night.

Look no further than Enroth when determining how the Sabres won this game. Washington flat-out controlled this game after the first period, out-attempting the Sabres 67 to 39 during five-on-five play for the game. The Capitals outshot the Sabres 44 to 26, too. Enroth gave up the lone goal early in the third period. He has two wins in a row, with a 3.40 goals-against average and .908 save percentage. No Sabres goalies are worth using in fantasy leagues at this point.
Nov 22 - 9:55 PM

Mike Green sustained an upper-body injury against the Sabres.

The Capitals defenseman will not return to the game. Green played 10:56 and had four shots on goal. He has 12 points on the season. Green has been a very productive defenseman in his career, but that comes with the fact he can't seem to stay healthy for a full season.
Nov 22 - 9:21 PM

With a goal for Vladimir Tarasenko and an assist for Jori Lehtera and Jaden Schwartz, the "STL Line" now has 39 points in 11 games for the St. Louis Blues.

Tarasenko scored his goal on six SOG. Alexander Steen was just as strong, firing seven SOG of his own, collecting the GWG. The Blues beat the Ottawa Senators 3-2.
Nov 22 - 5:48 PM

Nothing official has been announced yet, but it looks like the Boston Bruins put Brad Marchand on injured reserve on Saturday.

That's according to the team's website, yet it hasn't been expanded upon at this point. Marchand's been sidelined since last Sunday. The 26-year-old has 11 points in 19 games so far this season. Boston faces the Montreal Canadiens tonight (Saturday).
Nov 22 - 2:14 PM

Alex Pietrangelo has not played well for the Blues thus far this season.

He has registered a mere seven points in 19 games after recording 51 in 81 games last year. Pietrangelo has also been a bit of a liability without the puck as he has a minus five rating after posting a plus 20 rating in 2013-14. We expect Pietrangelo to rebound some, but his poor start can't be erased.
Nov 22 - 1:31 PM

Braden Holtby will get the start in goal for Washington on Saturday.

Holtby was the first goalie off the ice on Saturday which is the usual indicator as to who will start. The netminder is 7-4-2 this season with a 2.26 GAA and .914 save percentage. He is a good goalie to start in daily pools like FanDuel as the Capitals take on the Buffalo Sabres Saturday.

Kimmo Timonen (blood clots) still wants to play hockey.

Timonen was diagnosed with blood clots in his right calf and both lungs in the off-season and has been taking medication ever since to thin his blood. He has a condition that affects his mom and his two brothers as well and will likely need to be on anticoagulent medication the rest of his life. He can lift weights, play tennis etc. but he is unable to play hockey at this time. He will have ultrasounds and CT scans in the New Year and his hockey fate may be determined at that time. Stay tuned.
