Antoine Vermette reportedly plans to appeal his suspension.

Vermette received an automatic 10-game suspension for abuse of an official. Without appealing his suspension, he won't return until March 12 and will lose $97,222.22 in salary. If he is indeed appealing then the first step will be to have an in-person hearing with commissioner Gary Bettman. Vermette will be serving his suspension during the appeal process.

Adrian Kempe scored three goals with an assist, a plus-4 rating, a blocked shot and a hit in Wednesday's 5-1 win against the Canadiens.

Kempe, Mike Cammalleri and Trevor Lewis shined all night, combining for 10 points (five goals and five assists). It was Kempe's first-career NHL hat trick to help L.A. to its best six-game home start in club history. Kempe entered the game with just two goals and six points over his first 30 NHL games, so don't get terribly excited and add him to a fantasy roster just yet.
Oct 19 - 3:33 AM

Jaden Schwartz scored a hat trick in Wednesday's 5-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Schwartz came into tonight's game with two goals in six games. The Blues forward opened the scoring at the 4:46 mark of the first period. He then made it 2-0 5:59 into the second, and he completed the hat trick with an empty-netter in the final minute of the third frame. Schwartz now has five goals and six assists in seven games this season. Vladimir Tarasenko and Kyle Brodziak also found the back of the net for the Blues.
Oct 18 - 11:07 PM

Jimmy Howard was given the hook in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Howard allowed goals on the first two shots he faced. In total, the Wings goalie stopped just one of four shots. He lasted just 15:46 before backup Petr Mrazek entered the game. Despite the ugly outing for Howard, he didn't end up factoring in tonight's decision. He has a 3-1-0 record with a 2.54 goals-against-average and a .923 save percentage this season.
Oct 18 - 10:51 PM

Auston Matthews scored a goal and an assist in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings.

Matthews' goal at the 15:46 mark of the first period pushed Toronto's lead to 3-1 at the time. He also registered the primary assist on William Nylander's empty-netter late in the third period. Matthews has now picked up a point in six of the Maple Leafs' seven games. The 20-year-old is up to six goals, four assists and a plus-10 rating in seven contests. The Leafs have won six of their first seven games for the seventh time in franchise history.

Ryan Spooner sustained a right groin adductor tear on Sunday.

Spooner is expected to need four-to-six weeks to recover. In other words, don't expect him back until mid-November at the earliest. He has an assist in five games with the Bruins this season.

David Schlemko underwent surgery to remove a bone fragment in his hand.

Schlemko will need three-to-four weeks to recover. The timing of his injury is particularly unfortunate given that the 30-year-old defenseman had just been recalled on Saturday.

Al Montoya will be the Canadiens' starter on Wednesday.

That will provide Carey Price, who has struggled out of the gate, his first game off of the campaign. Montoya had a 2.67 GAA and .912 save percentage in 19 contests this season.
Oct 18 - 5:40 PM

Adin Hill will probably start again on Thursday.

Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet said that Hill would likely start, but didn't confirm it. Hill did stop 31 of 33 shots on Tuesday, so he played well enough to earn another start. Plus Antti Raanta hasn't resumed skating yet, so he probably won't be an option Thursday night.
Oct 18 - 5:30 PM

Jonathan Bernier is projected to be Colorado's starter on Thursday.

Bernier has a 1-1-0 record, 2.52 GAA, and .912 save percentage in two starts. He's a solid backup goaltender, but Semyon Varlamov is the clear number one in Colorado.
Oct 18 - 3:55 PM

Connor Hellebuyck will be the Jets' starting goaltender on Friday.

Winnipeg is in a stretch of just two games over the span of 11 days, so it's important to get Hellebuyck a start after Steve Mason played between the pipes on Tuesday. Otherwise Hellebuyck would be going nearly two weeks between appearances.
Oct 18 - 3:39 PM

Jaroslav Halak will start for the Islanders on Thursday.

Halak will be facing the rival New York Rangers. He has a 1-2-0 record, 2.62 GAA, and .907 save percentage in four contests this season.
